I've also been working on non-planar slicing from the ground up and I'm interested in knowing what you've learned/sharing my ideas etc.
My attempt is over at: https://github.com/sdfgeoff/shockwave_slicer and is focussed on how non-planar lets you print overhangs.
Slicing into slices works but is slow, toolpath generation on a 3d surface is where I'm currently at - I've read a bunch of papers (and have links to them in the repo) but have not implemented anything yet.
