### Arriving by Rail
### Rail and Bus

Coventry Railway Station is well-connected to Birmingham and London. There are frequent trains from Birmingham New Street that take ~20 minutes. In addition, it may be more convenient to travel to Canley Rail Station which is also in walking distance of the University.
[Coventry Railway Station](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZVKQ3m2a81Uc7mq38) is well-connected to both Birmingham and London.

### Buses
Coventry Railway Station has frequent buses to campus through the express 12X or the slower 11 (both operated by National Express). These can be caught from the [Rail Station Bridge stop](https://goo.gl/maps/YAqPpQXVXqzpKPz76), just outside the station (try to leave through the new bit). Alternatively, the 11 also stops at [Station Interchange](https://goo.gl/maps/Lu3GGVELEek24b7f8), through the underpass tunnel.
There are frequent buses from [just outside Coventry Railway Station](https://goo.gl/maps/YAqPpQXVXqzpKPz76) to campus, taking either the 12X or 11 -- these also connect to the city centre.

[Canley Station](https://maps.app.goo.gl/7eR142uVegZR7f6x8) is the closest to the university geographically, but is a half-hour walk and not well served by buses.

### Arriving by Car

Warwick University is on the south-western edge of **Coventry** (Postcode: CV4 7AL). There is lots of parking available on campus, although not all of it is publicly accessible. See [this map](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/carparks/where/where_can_i_park_-Jan_2022v2.pdf) and [this website](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/carparks/) for up-to-date information. The car parking rules on campus can be a bit tricky, so please be careful.

### Getting Around Campus

Campus is walkable and fully wheelchair accessible. The SU Atrium (where we’ll be) is on central campus and two minutes from the Bus Interchange. When navigating around campus, the [Interactive Campus Map](https://campus.warwick.ac.uk/search/623c8897421e6f5928c0d2e2) can be useful.

## Staying Nearby

<div class="whats-on-wrapper">

<div class="content">

If you are coming from further afield and want to stay overnight in the local area, there is a wide range of hotels available in central Coventry, which are a short walk away from any bus-routes to the University Campus. There are many more than listed here, and we are not affliated with any.

[ibis Coventry Centre](https://all.accor.com/hotel/2793/index.en.shtml) Very close to the train station, so just as frequently served by the 12X and 11 buses.

[Premier Inn Earlsdon Park](https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/west-midlands/coventry/coventry-city-centre-earlsdon-park.html) or [Premier Inn Belgrade Plaza](https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/west-midlands/coventry/coventry-city-centre-belgrade-plaza.html) Slightly out the centre, fairly well-connected.

[Britannia Hotel Coventry](https://www.britanniahotels.com/hotels/the-britannia-hotel-coventry) On the far end of the city, though well served from Poole Meadow Bus Station. Likely the cheapest.

</div>

<div class="content">

We would generally then recommend hotels around the city centre, as they are much better connected to the university than some places geographically closer by. However, if you want to be closer (or drive), we have some options:

[Warwick Conferences: Scarman or Radcliffe](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/conferences/bed-and-breakfast/) On campus, but at a premium.
## Staying Nearby

[Premier Inn Coventry South](https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/west-midlands/coventry/coventry-south-a45.html) Despite being geographically closer to the university, the buses can be unreliable.
If you're coming from further afield and want to stay overnight, there are a wide range of hotels to choose from - while we are not affiliated with any, here are a selection:

[Village Hotel Coventry](https://www.village-hotels.co.uk/coventry) Placed on the 11’s route, but doesn't have much around.
If you'd like to stay in central Coventry, then [Premier Inn Earlsdon Park](https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/west-midlands/coventry/coventry-city-centre-earlsdon-park.html) and [Ibis Coventry Centre](https://all.accor.com/hotel/2793/index.en.shtml) are a close walk to the train station and bus routes.

</div>
If you'd like to be geographically closer, there is accomodation directly [on-campus](https://warwick.ac.uk/services/conferences/bed-and-breakfast/) at a premium. [Premier Inn Coventry South](https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/west-midlands/coventry/coventry-south-a45.html) and [Village Hotel Coventry](https://www.village-hotels.co.uk/coventry) are also closer and connected by bus, with less amenities directly around. Finally, [Premier Inn Balsall Common](https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/hotels/england/west-midlands/balsall-common/balsall-common-near-nec.html) is further out, but good value-for-money if you're driving.

There are also three pub-restaurants nearby: The Dirty Duck, Varsity, and The Phantom Coach. The [Cannon Park](https://www.cannonparkshopping.co.uk/) shopping center is directly adjacent to campus, with a big Tesco, Aldi, and some fast food places like Greggs and Subway.

**Cannon Park** (~15mins walk): Greggs, Subway, Costa, Tesco, ALDI, Street food vans. Furthest away, but largest variety. There is also a nice pub called The Phantom Coach which is a little past Cannon Park.
**Leamington & Coventry** Have plenty of other places to get food but may require a short bus ride to reach.
Coventry Centre and Royal Leamington Spa have a more diverse selection, but require buses to reach.

WASD 2024 will be in Warwick University's Students' Union Atrium, which is a great venue for us.

![/images/layout.png](/images/layout.png)

We will be set up on the Atrium's stage, with two projector screens to either side. The central table with have tech on the far end, and two runner computers on the left and right. Most runs will alternate sides to give us more setup time, or both can be used for a race! Commentators will be in-front of the audience, and we'll have a practice area to the side (a couple of PCs & some monitors for consoles).

## The Computers
## PCs and Consoles

The computers are loaned from [Warwick Esports Centre](https://warwick.ac.uk/esports) and are top-end; they have 5900X processors and RTX 3080 graphics cards. Check [this page](https://warwick.ac.uk/esports/play/) for the full stats of these beasts! We provide peripherals & controllers, though you are welcome to bring your own. If you do bring your own equipment, please let us know beforehand so we know what to expect with the switch-over.
The PCs are kindly loaned from the [Warwick Esports Centre](https://warwick.ac.uk/esports), and should have more than powerful enough [specifications](https://warwick.ac.uk/esports/play/) for your runs. We can provide a controller, or you can bring your own gear if you prefer - just let us know.

## Consoles

[Warwick Computing Society](https://uwcs.co.uk/) have a variety of consoles they are able to provide:
The [Computing Society](https://uwcs.co.uk/) can provide the following consoles - again, let us know if you need one for your run:

- Xbox One & 360
- Xbox: Xbox One X and Xbox 360
- Nintendo: Switch, Wii U, Wii, and GameCube
- PS4
- Playstation: PS4

If you require any of these for your run, please mention this beforehand.
We can pre-install many games, however if you have requirements for specific versions, DLCs, or settings, let us know. We'd always recommend you bring a USB with everything installed as a backup, just in case.

If you are bringing your own console, laptop, or PC then we will be using an HDMI capture card to record your device’s output. For modern devices, this is straight forward, but older devices may need an adapter.

## On the Day

We can pre-install many games, however if there are any particular versions, DLCs, or settings you need beforehand, let us know. We always recommend you bring a USB with everything installed as a backup.
Please arrive **at least half an hour before** your scheduled slot, and come talk to the tech crew so we can set things up beforehand. The SU Atrium should look something like this:

We will be running Livesplit integration with our stream, so if you have splits of your run, send them to us or bring them with you if you want them on stream.

## On The Day
![/images/layout.png](/images/layout.png)

Please come along at least half an hour before your scheduled slot and come talk to the tech crew. We will ensure your game works, switch anything you need and balance your audio *while the previous run is still going*.
We will be set up on a stage with three computers - two for runners on either side, and one at the back for tech. Most runs will alternate sides to help with setup times, or both can be used at once for a race! Commentators will be in front of the audience, and we'll have a practice area to the side (a couple of PCs & some monitors for consoles).
