Top Menu

When you launch pkmn-chest you will first see the top menu, from this menu you can browse to your console and/or flashcard's SD card, select your cartridge's save, or select a favorite save. You can also exit the app by pressing START or open the options menu by pressing SELECT.

File browse

If you select your SD card, then you will be brought to a file browser. From here you can find and select a save to load. You can add any folder or valid save to your favorites on the top menu by pressing Y on it.

Cartridge

Below the SD card on the top menu is your current game cartridge, if the text is in red try ejecting and reinserting the cartridge.

Favorites

Below that is a list of favorite saves, you can add a save or folder to your favorites list by pressing Y while it is selected in the file browser and remove it with X in the top menu. If a favorite is in red that means the file could not be found.

GBA Virtual Console saves

GBA Virtual Console saves require some extra steps to access, if you want easier access to your GBA saves you can use GBARunner2 (DS / DSi / 3DS) or mGBA (n3DS). You can also use Flagbrew's PKSM which can easily access Virtual Console games' saves. If you still want to use VC saves with pkmn-chest, then follow the steps below:

Dumping

In order to access the save in pkmn-chest you will need to dump it using GodMode9:

  1. Launch the game you want the save from
  2. Reboot your 3DS into GodMode9 (Hold START while booting)
  3. Open [S:] SYSNAND VIRTUAL
  4. Click on agbsave.bin
  5. Click on AGBSAVE options... then Dump GBA VC save

Your save will now be in sdmc:/gm9/out named ################.gbavc.sav, with the # being the title id of the inject

Injecting

Once you're done editing you'll need to inject the save back into the GBA VC game:

  1. Launch the game you want the save from (Not needed if you haven't launched a different GBA VC game since dumping)
  2. Reboot your 3DS into GodMode9 (Hold START while booting)
  3. Open [0:] SDCARD (sd card's name here)
  4. Open gm9 -> out
  5. Go to the file named ################.gbavc.sav, with the # being the title id of the inject
  6. Press Y to select the file to the clipboard
  7. Go back to the drive list and open [S:] SYSNAND VIRTUAL
  8. Click on agbsave.bin
  9. Click on AGBSAVE options... then Inject GBA VC save You should now have your edited save when you play the GBA game
