Currently, the 2D alpha shapes used for huge point islands are really basic and could be improved.
The top part being flat could be changed, for example by re-introducing points inside of the alpha shape and triangulating them with a Delaunay triangulation. Those points could have varying height, thus eliminating the flat top.
Caution, the Delaunay triangulation could produce triangles that are partially outside of the alpha shape, those will need to be deleted. See this thread to learn more.
