@fwild what about the existing design e.g., for 3D models here:

Is that a widget already that can be put on: up and downloading activity, loading 3D asset, ...? I believe we also need something of a placeholder in 3D space, while a 3D augmentation is loading? Or we rethink the way it is loaded and preload first - with a big fat, blocking progress bar, and allow the activity to run only once it is loaded.
