Hi, wenn I use the Shell Context Menu to compare two Files, WinMergeU is started and also partially renders, but before the application becomes interactive, this exception occurs:
Unhandled exception at 0x00007FF777FC4C7B in WinMergeU.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000000000000010.
I tried it with Versions 2.16.10, .8 and 2.16.12, all yield similar behavior, both in 64 bit and x86 Version.
It works with Version 2.16.0 and 2.16.6 for me, so I have installed 2.16.6

If there's anything I can add, please come back to me...

  • Will WinMerge crash regardless of the contents of the files?

  • Does it crash when you run WinMergeU.exe from the start menu?

  • If it doesn't crash, could you please click the Configuration menu item in the Help menu item and attach the file that appears?
(If there are lines that contains personal information, delete that lines)

  • After renaming the following registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Thingamahoochie\WinMerge in regedit.exe, could you see if it crashes when you start WinMerge?

This crash has probably been fixed in commit f6abd30, so I am closing this issue.

The latest installer can be downloaded from the following URL
