This is the most important step, as many issues are related to an incomplete setup. This plugin is dependent on other plugins and therefor needs to be installed correctly with all it's dependencies. The installation guide can be found here.
CustomCrafting uses names and terms that might be exclusive to this plugin like names for specific GUIs, Workstations, etc. It is recommended to have a look at the list of terms that are used. Especially for workstations to prevent misconceptions about them. E.g. the difference between Advanced and Elite Crafting Table.
It is recommended to always keep up with the latest Spigot builds and Minecraft updates. CustomCrafting will always try to support the 3 most recent Minecraft versions. That means currently 1.16, 1.15 and 1.14 are supported. The latest version will get most of the features while older supported versions are limited in features.
