Welcome to the usbnew wiki!
usbnew requires the use of a USB Hub to use more than one device. It seems that some USB 3.0 Hubs do not function correctly with usbnew (or fullspeed hosts in general?), so I would recommend to stick with 2.0 Hubs.
Hubs with more than 4 ports are sometimes internally constructed by daisy-chaining multiple 4-port hub chips. All Hubs with more than 7 ports are constructed as such and a lot of 7-ports are, too. These hubs are suboptimal for use with usbnew since only the exposed ports of the first hub (usually the first three) will function.
Also, if your Hub has a separate power supply, you probably want to plug it in to avoid issues.
Due to a great lack of standardization and weird firmware hangups, whether or not any given USB input device gets correctly picked up by a minimal from-scratch USB stack is effectively a coin toss. This list is to document this nonsense and also acts as a buying guide of sorts.
