When I was working through the testing of reverse engineering the JSON to the control panel, the source: field is more for multiple devices to be able to control and talk to the control panel and to allow those devices to respond and such to the sent command. Example. You could have HA and C4 both connected and getting information from the panel. There is a periodic need to send an info command to the panel, and HA could send it with the source: HA (for example) and the C4 system would ignore those responses as the source: HA would be sent back from the panel. It's mainly for the different integrations to all interact with the panel without interfering with each other.
