Is your feature request related to a problem?

Not a problem. I have been using the mAbook up until I discovered this app yesterday. This app is the best app so far, but I miss mAbook's ability to quickly choose to rewind by minutes or blocks of 10 seconds without multiple button presses, especially when driving.

Describe the solution you'd like

Two sets of rewind and skip forward buttons, as per mAbook. Long and short

⏮️ Back to previous/start of chapter
⏪ Long rewind (default 1 minute)
◀️ Short rewind (10 seconds)
⏯️ Play/pause
▶️ Short forward (10 seconds)
⏩ Long forward (1 minute)

Describe alternatives you've considered

I have set rewind to 30 seconds and skip forward to 10 seconds.

Additional context

I have ADHD and can zone out and miss several minutes of an audiobook. This function makes it easy to jump back a few minutes with just a few taps to replay what I missed. I can easily skip back a minute with 6 ten-second presses, but if I've zoned out for 10 minutes, it's more distracting when driving to skip back with 50 presses.

But other times I just misheard a word or sentence and just want to quickly jump back 10 seconds.

This is particularly useful when driving, and makes for a potentially safer experience with less distraction spent tapping the back button multiple times.

I just realised this has been brought up over in discussions.

Oh yes, same thing with zoning out🙂. Need a large skip too! (I do 2min jumps)

I'm concerned about the chapter skip buttons next to the book's title, as it further reduces available space, which is already quite limited for me (where part of that problem is that currently it shows filename and author. No title?)

I like the approach of Smart Audiobook Player. It gives you a total of 6 different layouts (long press on lock symbol).

When implementing this change, maybe adding a long-press feature for the long skip button for even bigger jump could be an idea too?

@dedors It shows the chapter name if the book has chapters. It used to show the title but the consensus was chapter title would be more useful there.

Good point about the chapter skip button placement in that design. It's not going to work putting them there unless we reduce the size of the title a lot and move the skip buttons all the way out to the edge.

Sorry, when I searched for this, I didn't know what to look for... I searched for 'seek'. Anyway, here's what I had:

Describe the solution you'd like
Here's several ideas that can all be added as enhancements to help with this issue:

  1. have a major and minor increment that can be defined by the user the way Smart Audiobook Player (SABP) does.
  2. *Where available toggle between the overall [book] progress and the progress on the chapter/file so that seeking can be done within that smaller section vs. the larger one (since, while the former is quite imprecise, the latter is hopelessly so)
  3. A dynamic seek that can be triggered either by multiple pressing or by holding down the seek arrow. These jumps are definable on e.g., Kodi. I've been using SABP for so long that I forget how Rockbox used to work, but I'm fairly sure it had something similar to this.
  4. Hold down the seek button to seek continuously in a direction, possibly in a dynamic/increasing speed (1x > 2x > 4x > 8x ...)

*I since found the way to turn on chapter progress as I was looking about for something else.

I'd also like to see the option to have long and short rewind times. Coming from SmartAudioBookPlayer it's a real shame to not have these, and the current options for rewind times do not give enough options, with the max currently being 30 seconds.

Personally I have mine set to 4 minutes (long), and 30 seconds (short). This lets me quickly rewind by large chunks if the sleep timer was incorrectly interrupted.
