audioswitch crashes/stops working at seemingly random times

What steps will reproduce the problem?
Seems to most often happen when I close a program other than audioswitch.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
When it crashes I get a message saying audioswitch has stopped working and my 
mouse control gets fuzzy (moves around sporadically with some noticeable 
influence from my actual movements).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.
This was not a problem when I had it installed with Windows 7. When I did a 
fresh install of Windows 8 and reinstalled the software this behavior started 
happening.
