When trying to talk to shop owners, priests, banker, cartographer, Guild master.. etc, as soon as the ESC key is pressed or if you click on the ESC to exit that action, the game freezes up. I have tried it with highest FPS, and low FPS. Also tried CPU speed at 486 and 386. No extra options other than default are selected from the Boxer options.

(I've edited the issue title to clarify that World of Xeen wasn't Might & Magic 6 per se, but M&M 4+5 put together. M&M6 was a separate entry in the series that was released for Windows only.)

I haven't had a chance to test this myself yet but according to DOSBox's compatibility notes, disabling speech in the game options will prevent the crash when leaving a shop. Could you try this workaround and let me know if it works?

I should note also that GOG.com claim to have a "full speech" version of World of Xeen available in their M&M 6-pack (which is unfortunately not yet available for Mac). This implies that they have either patched the underlying game bug that was causing the crash, or have found a combination of DOSBox settings that will avoid it. I'll look at their release and see what's up.

You have correctly diagnosed the issue. In fact the sound setup file adjustmet was the fix. I had to choose a SBlaster Pro within the game to make it work correctly. Boxer has no issues.

Thanks again for such a great product. Im very happy.

Ok, so to confirm, choosing Sound Blaster Pro (instead of Sound Blaster 16?) fixed the crash? And you didn't have to disable speech?

Correct. I'm still using the speech. My computer is an i7 MacBookPro with 16GB of the 1666 RAM. I also upgraded the graphics GPU to the highest possible at the time it was manufactured. Perhaps earlier MBP's manufactured before summer 2013 may need it disabled. Not sure. Mine works perfectly now.

(The host machine doesn't make any difference to the emulation itself - Boxer behaves the same on any Mac.)

It's good to know for future reference that MM4+5 needs Sound Blaster Pro unfortunately it's up to the user to choose the correct sound card in the game's setup, but at least now I can point future users with this problem to this support issue.
