Starting, but not working at all

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. starting autokey
2. open any programm to type any shortcut

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It happens nothing. No typing from autokey - no replacement!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
GNU/Linux Kubuntu 9.10, with the repository mentioned here.

Please provide any additional information below.
The config-file is from an further version.

I was having this issue, at one time, with the GTK version (Ubuntu 9.10), but 
the last 
few versions have been working fine.
