Interface definition language are used to describe API endpoints, rather than make our own we should consider an existing format. Investigate:

Apache Thrift seems interesting if it allows building consumers for all languages.

Documentation for Thrift is an issue and not sure about the uptake either, found this which seems worth reading

Google's publishes their infrastructure for C++, Java and Python called Protocol Buffers
