After creating a low-overhead loop, the loop update instruction was still
lingering around hurting performance. This removes dead loop update
instructions, which in our case are mostly SUBS instructions.

To support this, some helper functions were added to MachineLoopUtils and
ReachingDefAnalysis to analyse live-ins of loop exit blocks and find uses
before a particular loop instruction, respectively.

This is a first version that removes a SUBS instruction when there are no other
uses inside and outside the loop block, but there are some more interesting
cases in test/CodeGen/Thumb2/LowOverheadLoops/mve-tail-data-types.ll which
shows that there is room for improvement. For example, we can't handle this
case yet:

    ..
    dlstp.32  lr, r2
  .LBB0_1:
    mov r3, r2
    subs  r2, #4
    vldrh.u32 q2, [r1], #8
    vmov  q1, q0
    vmla.u32  q0, q2, r0
    letp  lr, .LBB0_1
  @ %bb.2:
    vctp.32 r3
    ..

which is a lot more tricky because r2 is not only used by the subs, but also by
the mov to r3, which is used outside the low-overhead loop by the vctp
instruction, and that requires a bit of a different approach, and I will follow
up on this.

because at this point there are two instructions defining Res: the
original G_SMULO/G_UMULO and the new G_MUL that we built. The fix is
to modify the original mul in place, so that there is only ever one
definition of Res.

This adds some extra processing into the Pre-RA ARM load/store optimizer
to detect and merge MVE loads/stores and adds of the same base. This we
don't always turn into a post-inc during ISel, and due to the nature of
it being a graph we don't always know an order to use for the nodes, not
knowing which nodes to make post-inc and which to use the new post-inc
of. After ISel, we have an order that we can use to post-inc the
following instructions.

So this looks for a loads/store with a starting offset of 0, and an
add/sub from the same base, plus a number of other loads/stores. We then
do some checks and convert the zero offset load/store into a postinc
variant. Any loads/stores after it have the offset subtracted from their
immediates.  For example:
  LDR #4           LDR #4
  LDR #0           LDR_POSTINC #16
  LDR #8           LDR #-8
  LDR #12          LDR #-4
  ADD #16
It only handles MVE loads/stores at the moment. Normal loads/store will
be added in a followup patch, they just have some extra details to
ensure that we keep generating LDRD/LDM successfully.

Summary:
The previous code tries to strip out parentheses and anything in between
them. I'm guessing the idea here was to try to drop any listed arguments
for the function being symbolized. Unfortunately this approach is broken
in several ways.

* Templated functions may contain parentheses. The existing approach
messes up these names.
* In C++ argument types are part of a function's signature for the
purposes of overloading so removing them could be confusing.

Fix this simply by not trying to adjust the function name that comes
from `atos`.

A test case is included.

Without the change the test case produced output like:

```
WRITE of size 4 at 0x6060000001a0 thread T0
    #10 0x7fff6ffdfcc8 in start (in libdyld.dylib) + 0
```

Note how the symbol names for the frames are messed up (e.g. #8, #1).

With the patch the output looks like:

```
When `Target::GetEntryPointAddress()` calls `exe_module->GetObjectFile()->GetEntryPointAddress()`, and the returned
`entry_addr` is valid, it can immediately be returned.
However, just before that, an `llvm::Error` value has been setup, but in this case it is not consumed before returning, like is done further below in the function.
In https://bugs.freebsd.org/248745 we got a bug report for this, where a very simple test case aborts and dumps core:
```

   1	int main(int argc, char *argv[])
   2	{
-> 3	    return 0;
   4	}
(lldb) p argc
Program aborted due to an unhandled Error:
Error value was Success. (Note: Success values must still be checked prior to being destroyed).

  LLVM :: MC/AArch64/SVE/uqsub-diagnostics.s

For example, reduced from `MC/AArch64/SVE/add-diagnostics.s`:

  add     z0.b, z0.b, #0, lsl #8

missed the expected diagnostics

  $ ./bin/llvm-mc -triple=aarch64 -show-encoding -mattr=+sve add.s
  add.s:1:21: error: immediate must be an integer in range [0, 255] with a shift amount of 0
  add     z0.b, z0.b, #0, lsl #8
                      ^

The message is `Match_InvalidSVEAddSubImm8`, emitted in the generated
`lib/Target/AArch64/AArch64GenAsmMatcher.inc` for `MCK_SVEAddSubImm8`.
When comparing the call to `::AArch64Operand::isSVEAddSubImm<char>` on both
Linux/x86_64 and Solaris, I find

  875	    bool IsByte = std::is_same<int8_t, std::make_signed_t<T>>::value;

is `false` on Solaris, unlike Linux.

The problem boils down to the fact that `int8_t` is plain `char` on
Solaris: both the sparc and i386 psABIs have `char` as signed. However,
with

  9887	    DiagnosticPredicate DP(Operand.isSVEAddSubImm<int8_t>());

in `lib/Target/AArch64/AArch64GenAsmMatcher.inc`, `std::make_signed_t<int8_t>`
above yieds `signed char`, so `std::is_same<int8_t, signed char>` is `false`.

This can easily be fixed by also allowing for `int8_t` here and in a few
similar places.

Tested on `amd64-pc-solaris2.11`, `sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11`, and
`x86_64-pc-linux-gnu`.

CXXDeductionGuideDecl with a local typedef has its own copy of the
TypedefDecl with the CXXDeductionGuideDecl as the DeclContext of that
TypedefDecl.
```
      template <typename T> struct A {
        typedef T U;
        A(U, T);
      };
      A a{(int)0, (int)0};
```
Related discussion on cfe-dev:
http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/cfe-dev/2020-November/067252.html

Without this fix, when we import the CXXDeductionGuideDecl (via
VisitFunctionDecl) then before creating the Decl we must import the
FunctionType. However, the first parameter's type is the afore mentioned
local typedef. So, we then start importing the TypedefDecl whose
DeclContext is the CXXDeductionGuideDecl itself. The infinite loop is
formed.

The fix is to first create the TypedefDecl and only then start to import
the DeclContext.
Basically, we could do this during the import of all other Decls (not
just for typedefs). But it seems, there is only one another AST
construct that has a similar cycle: a struct defined as a function
parameter:
```
int struct_in_proto(struct data_t{int a;int b;} *d);
```
In that case, however, we had decided to return simply with an error
back then because that seemed to be a very rare construct.

Specifically, the compiler did wrong transformation for the

This patch fixes an issue where a pre-indexed store e.g.,
STR x1, [x0, #24]! with a store like STR x0, [x0, #8] are
merged into a single store: STP x1, x0, [x0, #24]!
. They shouldn’t be merged because the second store uses
x0 as both the stored value and the address and so it needs to be using the updated x0.
Therefore, it should not be folded into a STP <>pre.

Additionally a new test case is added to verify this fix.

Having nested macros in the C code could cause clangd to fail an assert in clang::Preprocessor::setLoadedMacroDirective() and crash.

An example of the code that causes the assert failure:
```
...
```

During code completion in clangd, the macros will be loaded in loadMainFilePreambleMacros() by iterating over the macro names and calling PreambleIdentifiers->get(). Since these macro names are store in a StringSet (has StringMap underlying container), the order of the iterator is not guaranteed to be same as the order seen in the source code.

When clangd is trying to resolve nested macros it sometimes attempts to load them out of order which causes a macro to be stored twice. In the example above, ECHO2 macro gets resolved first, but since it uses another macro that has not been resolved it will try to resolve/store that as well. Now there are two MacroDirectives stored in the Preprocessor, ECHO and ECHO2. When clangd tries to load the next macro, ECHO, the preprocessor fails an assert in clang::Preprocessor::setLoadedMacroDirective() because there is already a MacroDirective stored for that macro name.

In this diff, I check if the macro is already inside the IdentifierTable and if it is skip it so that it is not resolved twice.

Rust's v0 name mangling scheme [1] is easy to disambiguate from other
name mangling schemes because symbols always start with `_R`. The llvm
Demangle library supports demangling the Rust v0 scheme. Use it to
demangle Rust symbols.

Added unit tests that check simple symbols. Ran LLDB built with this
patch to debug some Rust programs compiled with the v0 name mangling
scheme. Confirmed symbol names were demangled as expected.

Note: enabling the new name mangling scheme requires a nightly

…i variadic functions."

This reverts commit 56fd846.

This commit regressed handling of functions with floats as arguments,
reproducible e.g. like this:

$ cat test.c
double func(double f) {
    return f;
}
$ clang -target aarch64-windows -S -o - test.c -fno-asynchronous-unwind-tables
func:
	sub	sp, sp, #16
	str	x0, [sp, #8]
	ldr	d0, [sp, #8]
	add	sp, sp, #16
	ret

It seems like `LHS` and `RHS` could be empty range sets.
This caused an assertion failure inside RangeConstraintManager.

I'm hoisting out the check from the function into the call-site.
This way we could assert that we only want to deal with non-empty range
sets.

It seems like `LHS` and `RHS` could be empty range sets.
This caused an assertion failure inside RangeConstraintManager.

I'm hoisting out the check from the function into the call-site.
This way we could assert that we only want to deal with non-empty range
sets.

When building/testing ASan inside the GCC tree on Solaris while using GNU

The address being accessed is unmapped. However, even when the tests
`PASS` with Solaris `ld`, `ASAN_OPTIONS=verbosity=2` shows

  ==6582==__tls_get_addr: Can't guess glibc version

Given that that the code is stricly `glibc`-specific according to
`sanitizer_tls_get_addr.h`, there seems little point in using the
interceptor on non-`glibc` targets.

That's what this patch does. Tested on `i386-pc-solaris2.11` and
`sparc-sun-solaris2.11` inside the GCC tree.

adrian-prantl added a commit to adrian-prantl/llvm-project that referenced this pull request Jan 20, 2023
the swift branch.

The function IRExecutionUnit::PopulateSymtab() is only implemented in swift-lldb.

One thing it does is resolve any unresolved global symbols in the JIT
module. This global search can cause the JIT module to recursively be
asked for its symtab.

This patch works around the problem by removing the JIT module from
the list of modules being searched while in PopulateSymtab. That isn't
done in the most elegant fashion, as it does so by changing the state
of the IRExecutionUnit object.

adrian-prantl added a commit to adrian-prantl/llvm-project that referenced this pull request Jan 20, 2023
the swift branch.

…ak ordering

`std::sort` requires a comparison operator that obides by strict weak
ordering. `operator<=` on pointer does not and leads to undefined
behaviour. Specifically, when we grow the `scratch_type_systems` vector
slightly larger (and thus take `std::sort` down a slightly different
codepath), we segfault. This happened while working on a patch that
would in fact grow this vector. In such a case ASAN reports:

Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D142709
swift-ci pushed a commit that referenced this pull request Mar 22, 2023
This change prevents rare deadlocks observed for specific macOS/iOS GUI
applications which issue many `dlopen()` calls from multiple different
threads at startup and where TSan finds and reports a race during
startup. Providing a reliable test for this has been deemed infeasible.

Although I've only observed this deadlock on Apple platforms,
conceptually the cause is not confined to Apple code so the fix lives in
platform-independent code.

Deadlock scenario:
```
Thread 2                    | Thread 4
ReportRace()                |
Lock internal TSan mutexes  |
  &ctx->slot_mtx            |
                            | dlopen() interceptor
                            | OnLibraryLoaded()
                            | MemoryMappingLayout::DumpListOfModules()
                            | calls dyld API, which takes internal lock
                            | lock() interceptor
                            | TSan tries to take internal mutexes again
                            |   &ctx->slot_mtx
call into symbolizer        |
MemoryMappingLayout::DumpListOfModules()
calls dyld API, which hangs on trying to take lock
```
Resulting in:
* Thread 2 has internal TSan mutex, blocked on dyld lock
* Thread 4 has dyld lock, blocked on internal TSan mutex

The fix prevents this situation by not intercepting any of the calls
originating from `MemoryMappingLayout::DumpListOfModules()`.

Stack traces for deadlock between ReportRace() and dlopen() interceptor:

[ARM] generate armv6m eXecute Only (XO) code for immediates, globals

Previously eXecute Only (XO) support was implemented for targets that support
MOVW/MOVT (~armv7+). See: https://reviews.llvm.org/D27449

XO prevents the compiler from generating data accesses to code sections. This
patch implements XO codegen for armv6-M, which does not support MOVW/MOVT, and
must resort to the following general pattern to avoid loads:

    movs    r3, :upper8_15:foo
    lsls    r3, #8
    adds    r3, :upper0_7:foo
    lsls    r3, #8
    adds    r3, :lower8_15:foo
    lsls    r3, #8
    adds    r3, :lower0_7:foo
    ldr     r3, [r3]

This is equivalent to the code pattern generated by GCC.

The above relocations are new to LLVM and have been implemented in a parent
patch: https://reviews.llvm.org/D149443.

This patch limits itself to implementing codegen for this pattern and enabling
XO for armv6-M in the backend.

Separate patches will follow for:
- switch tables
- replacing specific loads from constant islands which are spread out over the
  ARM backend codebase. Amongst others: FastISel, call lowering, stack frames.

…fine.parallel verifier

This patch updates AffineParallelOp::verify() to check each result type matches
its corresponding reduction op (i.e, the result type must be a `FloatType` if
the reduction attribute is `addf`)

affine.parallel will crash on --lower-affine if the corresponding result type
cannot match the reduction attribute.

```
      %128 = affine.parallel (%arg2, %arg3) = (0, 0) to (8, 7) reduce ("maxf") -> (memref<8x7xf32>) {
        %alloc_33 = memref.alloc() : memref<8x7xf32>
        affine.yield %alloc_33 : memref<8x7xf32>
      }
```
This will crash and report a type conversion issue when we run `mlir-opt --lower-affine`

```
After 89d458b and #7662, the code of
MetadataLoader.cpp allows the new NumExtraInhabitants field, but it
always supposes it is available. Some tests do not seem to like that.
When compiling with asserts, binaries like `opt` will crash with an
assertion accessing `SmallVector` indices out of bounts, while in
no-asserts it just keeps going, probably using garbage values.
Change two places where the `Record` was accessed with `operator[]`
without first checking for the `Record` size to check for the size. Use
a default of `0` in case the record is not found.
The test that failed before these changes are:
```
  LLVM :: Bitcode/DIExpression-4.0.ll

```
The failure looked like the following:
```

…tePluginObject

After llvm#68052 this function changed from returning
a nullptr with `return {};` to returning Expected and hitting `llvm_unreachable` before it could
do so.

I gather that we're never supposed to call this function, but on Windows we actually do call
this function because `interpreter->CreateScriptedProcessInterface()` returns
`ScriptedProcessInterface` not `ScriptedProcessPythonInterface`. Likely because
`target_sp->GetDebugger().GetScriptInterpreter()` also does not return a Python related class.

The previously XFAILed test crashed with:

That might be a bug on the Windows side, or an artifact of how our build is setup,
but whatever it is, having `CreatePluginObject` return an error and
the caller check it, fixes the failing test.

The built lldb can run the script command to use Python, but I'm not sure if that means
anything.

Judging by the backtrace something is trying to read the pointer authentication address/code mask
registers. This explains why I've not seen this issue locally, as the buildbot runs on Graviton
3 with has the pointer authentication extension.

I will try to reproduce, fix and re-enable the test.

… smstart/smstop. (llvm#78294)

This patch introduces a 'COALESCER_BARRIER' which is a pseudo node that
expands to
a 'nop', but which stops the register allocator from coalescing a COPY
node when
its use/def crosses a SMSTART or SMSTOP instruction.

For example:

    %0:fpr64 = COPY killed $d0
    undef %2.dsub:zpr = COPY %0       // <- Do not coalesce this COPY
    ADJCALLSTACKDOWN 0, 0
MSRpstatesvcrImm1 1, 0, csr_aarch64_smstartstop, implicit-def dead $d0
    $d0 = COPY killed %0
    BL @use_f64, csr_aarch64_aapcs

If the COPY would be coalesced, that would lead to:

    $d0 = COPY killed %0

being replaced by:

    $d0 = COPY killed %2.dsub

which means the whole ZPR reg would be live upto the call, causing the
MSRpstatesvcrImm1 (smstop) to spill/reload the ZPR register:

    str     q0, [sp]   // 16-byte Folded Spill
    smstop  sm
    ldr     z0, [sp]   // 16-byte Folded Reload
    bl      use_f64

which would be incorrect for two reasons:
1. The program may load more data than it has allocated.
2. If there are other SVE objects on the stack, the compiler might use
the
   'mul vl' addressing modes to access the spill location.

By disabling the coalescing, we get the desired results:

    str     d0, [sp, #8]  // 8-byte Folded Spill
    smstop  sm
    ldr     d0, [sp, #8]  // 8-byte Folded Reload
    bl      use_f64

After 89d458b and #7662, the code of
MetadataLoader.cpp allows the new NumExtraInhabitants field, but it
always supposes it is available. Some tests do not seem to like that.
When compiling with asserts, binaries like `opt` will crash with an
assertion accessing `SmallVector` indices out of bounts, while in
no-asserts it just keeps going, probably using garbage values.

Change two places where the `Record` was accessed with `operator[]`
without first checking for the `Record` size to check for the size. Use
a default of `0` in case the record is not found.

The test that failed before these changes are:

With these changes, those tests all pass and the crash does not
reproduce.

TestCases/Misc/Linux/sigaction.cpp fails because dlsym() may call malloc
on failure. And then the wrapped malloc appears to access thread local
storage using global dynamic accesses, thus calling
___interceptor___tls_get_addr, before REAL(__tls_get_addr) has
been set, so we get a crash inside ___interceptor___tls_get_addr. For
example, this can happen when looking up __isoc23_scanf which might not
exist in some libcs.

Fix this by marking the thread local variable accessed inside the
debug checks as "initial-exec", which does not require __tls_get_addr.

This is probably a better alternative to llvm#83886.

This fixes a different crash but is related to llvm#46204.

Fold BICi if all destination bits are already known to be zeroes

```llvm
define <8 x i16> @haddu_known(<8 x i8> %a0, <8 x i8> %a1) {
  %x0 = zext <8 x i8> %a0 to <8 x i16>
  %x1 = zext <8 x i8> %a1 to <8 x i16>
  %hadd = call <8 x i16> @llvm.aarch64.neon.uhadd.v8i16(<8 x i16> %x0, <8 x i16> %x1)
  %res = and <8 x i16> %hadd, <i16 511, i16 511, i16 511, i16 511,i16 511, i16 511, i16 511, i16 511>
  ret <8 x i16> %res
}
declare <8 x i16> @llvm.aarch64.neon.uhadd.v8i16(<8 x i16>, <8 x i16>)
```

```
haddu_known:                            // @haddu_known
        ushll   v0.8h, v0.8b, #0
        ushll   v1.8h, v1.8b, #0
        uhadd   v0.8h, v0.8h, v1.8h
        bic     v0.8h, #254, lsl #8 <-- this one will be removed as we know high bits are zero extended
        ret
