Issue Description:

Documentation conversion is currently run serially on non-macOS systems but in parallel on macOS. The parallel workflow was disabled on Linux because of unusually high memory usage when converting large documentation catalogs in parallel. This issue should be investigated and, if there is a memory leak, resolved so that documentation conversion can be parallelized on non-macOS systems.
