Use cases for this add-on

Manufacturer support

Itho Daalderop is the manufacturer of the CVE and HRU/QualityFlow/DemandFlow devices and does not provide native support to control the devices via an app, web page and restricts control via its remotes. This means it was impossible to integrate it with existing home automation solution or control parameters unless you are an authorised service technician.

Custom development

On a Dutch forum (https://gathering.tweakers.net/) there were several people that were building their custom integration, trying to make it work with the ITHO unit(s). Arjen Hiemstra developed this add-on based on that information, and expanded it. The add-on is not endorsed by Itho and not supported by service technicians or covered under Itho warranty.

Use cases and automation

Humidity driven ventilation

Humidity ideally sits between 40% and 60% for best indoor climate and natural ventilation is not always possible for all rooms. A use case for home automation is monitoring humidity (e.g. via built-in sensors or external ones like a Zigbee Xiaomi Aqara temperature humidity sensor) and based on a threshold like 80% humidity adjust speed accordingly by sending a timer value or manual speed.

CO2 driven ventilation

The CO2 level in rooms fluctuates based on natural air flow and number of people in a room, and is an indicator of air quality. The level is measured in ppm (parts per million) and is a supported feature of the Itho CO2 sensor and control unit (see CO2-sensors) which can be used to control the HRU-350 WTW unit. The HRU-350 considers 500-1500ppm range good CO2 level and 1501 to 2000 as bad. It turns on ventilation if the measured and reported CO2 level is about to exceed the threshold. The add-on allows one to adjust the thresholds via the "Itho Settings" menu item (read the warnings!) or control via MQTT/Web API the speed / mode if you want to follow a different pattern.
