@lfarv, what happened to the Observables and Variables classes? I have several application that would profit a lot fro, these... can we revive this development? I can take it back if you don't have time

@swhite2401 : thanks for remind me this. The branch is ready and documented! It's nice if you have applications potentially using it, to see if there are things to be modified or added. I'll open a PR today (after rebasing of the latest master), let you look and give your comments.
