With Palatino (16pt) there are obvious spaces on the right:

2015-12-22 9 15 24

This is also the case for Helvetica Neue (16pt):

2015-12-22 9 23 17

comparing to Courier Prime (16pt) which behaves correctly:

2015-12-22 9 20 28

Similarly, the indent guide doesn't align up consistently with a proportional font:

(I'm using InputSansCondensed-Thin (11pt) for this example, on Mac OS X 10.11.2.)

Found a package that solved this for me: AtomicChar

(Tried with Input Sans)

That seems to have fixed it. Thanks @barissenkal

+1 tested to work (Helvetica/Palatino for English, HiraginoSansGB-W3/HYQiHeiX1 for mixed Chinese/English).

Thanks @barissenkal

AtomicChar seems to not be working for me at the moment.

Yep, looks like AtomicChar has gone away and I can't find any replacement packages.

Has anyone come across a solution for this? Or any indication of interest in fixing it? This problem essentially means proportional fonts are unusable in Atom, which is discouraging.

No, I could not find any solutions.
