Now that we have our governance model it is time to put together our most important group; the moderation team.

What's that then? 🤔

As per our governance document:

The moderation team serves to enforce the project's Code of Conduct and manage situations of conflict. There are no core team members on the moderation team, in order to not pick sides.

Every member of the moderation team is also an Owner of the ayojs GitHub organization.

Our moderation team must live by and enforce the Code of Conduct in all official Ayo channels. Right now this is our GitHub and Discord channels.

How do I volunteer? 🙌

Express your wish to be part of this team by commenting on this issue, saying as much. Please bare in mind that due to the small size of the project, we'll be asking a maximum of five people to come on board.

I have questions ❓

To get the quickest response, please chat in our Discord: https://discord.gg/hCgptwH

🙌

I think the strongest skills I can bring to Ayo.js are patience and amicability, so I would love to help with this.

👏
I nominate myself to be a member of the moderation team. 😄 BTW, I'm also the guy willing to help build the website. ayojs/ayojs.tech#2 not sure if it conflicts with this role.

@siddharthkp one cannot be a member of the moderation team and the core team, so you can only apply for one team I'm afraid.

Can I leave that decision to you? I'd be happy to help in whatever way I can

Will official moderation team members receive armbands with the letters "MT" embroidered on it?

@BTBaum Could you clarify? To me your comment is either:

  1. Likening us to some kind of military police.
  2. Asking for special badges for team members or something of the sort.
  3. None of the above.

As you have made a contribution to Ayo before, I'm leaning towards 2. but clarification would be awesome. Thanks!

I'll throw my hat in this, I think.

I've found that representation of folks from a wide variety of backgrounds has been one of the most important aspects of an effective moderation team when you're trying to make sure you resolve things in a healthy and empathic way -- and this matters a lot more in the initial selection of folks.

I would really really appreciate it if folks reading this who don't belong to a majority of contributors also threw their hats into this. I think the moderation process should be such that those folks aren't burdened with being the ones that take action all the time, but just having y'all there so we can check in with you during tricky situations would be invaluable. I hope you'll volunteer too <3

[edit by @zkat: after reading this I realized it might be implying that we don't already have some level of varied representation in the volunteers so far -- we do! Just hoping we get more folks, specially for the bits we're missing.]

Time-zones might be a thing to consider, assuming we will want a moderator available at any given time. I am currently GMT+1 (London).

I'd gladly contribute to moderation – I've been watching this space fairly closely anyway. Feel free to pop me an email or a twitter.

@srilq You may want to join the Discord, since that's likely to become a center for discussion about moderation stuff (we have an admin channel there)

@zkat Yup - you can catch me there too! I think the admin channel might be private (I can't see it).

Nothing like that... Slight exaggeration. Stickers for the laptop would be a nice thought later down the road.

thanks everyone for volunteering! we're going to close this issue and over the next days, the current founding members are coming up with a list of members for the teams! we'll update this issue once we've assembled that list.
