For people wanting to add individual events to their own personal calendar, backdropcms.org/news/events doesn't provide a way to do that. And It's a multiple step process to add a calendar item even if you're using Google Calendar.
An actively maintained alternative to the "Add to Cal" module is Views iCal Export:
Using this module, you can attach an iCal feed to your views' page, so visitors are able to add your events to their calendar and get them updated automatically.
I've tested addtocal but it isn't working. I've raised a couple of issues.
I'm not sure that Views iCal Export is suitable unless someone wants all the events of a view. This might work if we have suitable filtering of the view and that can be used to define a feed.

We should find a way to add an "Add to my calendar" button to any event node on b.org. In the other issue someone suggested https://github.com/backdrop-contrib/addtocal.
