Is it possible to rename the font? #16
Comments
Maybe I should call it "Iceweasel Mono" :) I will think about it, but I cannot guarantee I will come up with a new name for sure. I like this one, even if it kind of refers to the "infamous" Comic Sans, and even if Cosmic Sans already exists. Is this concern backed by some legal issue/Debian policy, or just by personal taste? |
I like the german sounds of it : ) |
(Original complainer here.) The problem is that you can't use the font's name in a conversation -- either verbal or written, without explaining that it's a completely unrelated font: human minds works quite similar to Google's autocorrection: if there's a similar term that's many orders of magnitude better known, people unconsciously mishear/misread it. Thus, any unique name would be best, yet anything that won't be mistaken for another font should be ok too. |
I like the name "cosmic sans" a lot. And I don't find it confusing with "comic sans" at all. The indirect reference to "comic sans" adds to the coolness factor. /personal taste |
hrj: you just managed to use a wrong, misleading name. The font here is Cosmic Sans Neue, "Cosmic Sans" is a different font (http://www.typographyserved.com/gallery/Font-Cosmic-Sans/5724159), already mentioned in CSN's description. This sort of confusion is specifically what I'm unhappy with, and why I think it would be nice if belluzj could rename the font before it gains much popularity. |
I was comparing "comic" with "cosmic". The neue at the end is incidental to my point. But here's my corrected, legally staunch, personal opinion: I like the name "cosmic sans neue" a lot. And I don't find it confusing with "comic sans" at all. The indirect reference to "comic sans" adds to the coolness factor. |
The ideas I came up with are "Something Sane Mono" (to take @kilobyte remarks literally) or "Wobbly Sans Mono" (which has the advantage of being already linked to my font by Google). Or maybe something like "Fantasque Sans", which sound nice and is more like a real font name. Feel free to give your thoughts about these. As for me, I still prefer the original name, despite the many collisions... |
👍 for _Fantasque Sans Mono_ |
👍 for Fantasque Sans Mono here too! |
Here is some coolness factor evaluation material: Cosmic Sans Neue versus Fantasque Sans |
Where is the like button when you need one… |
Should I also rename the GitHub repository? It will screw up links, but It would be more consistent. Does anyone have advice about this? |
Woot! Done. |
Thanks @belluzjVasudev Kamath |
Somewhat late on this, but I wish I could have added "Not Comic Sans" to the list of names to choose from..... |
Hi,
First of all thanks for creating such a wonderful font. I'm trying to package this font for Debian and filed my intent for the same. Here I got some concern raised by a fellow developer on the name of font.
Is it possible for upstream to consider a name change for the font?.
Thank you,
