Steps To Reproduce

  1. Go to Preferences (⌘,)
  2. Open the ">PREFERENCES" drop down list and click on "Minimize when copying to clipboard" option.
  3. Open the ">APP SETTINGS" drop down list and click on "Minimize to menu bar" option.
  4. Go to any login item and click on the copy to clipboard button.
  5. The app window minimizes to the Dock, but does not disappear.
  6. When the icon for the minimized window is clicked, it leaves the dock and returns to the desktop, but the menu bar at the top of the screen does not change to BitWarden, it stays on whatever app was last used.
  7. In this state when ⌘+TAB is used, BitWarden does not appear as an option to switch to.

Expected Result

The expected result is for BitWarden to minimize to the Dock, then disappear & remain in the Menu Bar.

Actual Result

The minimized window stays in the dock, & then has unusual focus behaviour.

Screenshots or Videos

Okay, this is frustrating. I was going to use ⌘+SHIFT+5 to capture a screen recording. In the process of protecting my privacy for this, I logged out and back into a different clean BitWarden account, setup with the same preferences. I was then unable to reproduce the issue in either account.

Additional Context

I did a search for "minimize" before filing this, & think issue #3009 might be related. I actually was able to reproduce issue 3009!
With Safari open, I closed OR minimized BitWarden. The BitWarden Dock Icon stays in the 'recent apps' section of the dock. Clicking this icon opens the BitWarden window, but does not change the Menu Bar to BitWarden, & clicking on the window doesn't change the menu bar either. But if you close or minimize BitWarden, & open it via the Menu Bar icon, the Menu Bar does change to BitWarden.

Issue Tracking Info

  • I understand that work is tracked outside of Github. A PR will be linked to this issue should one be opened to address it, but Bitwarden doesn't use fields like "assigned", "milestone", or "project" to track progress.
