Steps To Reproduce

  1. Make sure auto fill menu for form fields is not set to off
  2. Open Safari and go to a website for which you have no logins stored
  3. Click on a form field where you can enter login credentials
  4. In the Bitwarden auto fill inline menu click on new item

Expected Result

Nothing happens until you click the Bitwarden browser extension icon in the browser toolbar. Then a new seperate Bitwarden window will open. If you clicked multiple times on new item before there will be multiple windows stacked on top for each click you made.

Actual Result

Bitwarden should open without clicking on the Bitwarden extension icon first

I just wanted to comment that I have this same problem with auto-fill. If I hit the hotkey (Cmd+Shift+L) nothing happens until I then either click the extension or use Cmd+Shift+Y to activate the extension. Then, immediately, the login is filled as expected.

Off topic: I've also been having some unlocking with biometrics trouble on this latest version (2024.7.1). I often have to unlock it three or four times before it actually stays unlocked. All of this is in Safari Version 17.5 on MacOS 13.6.7 and using the desktop app 2024.7.1 and now continues on Safari 17.6 and MacOS 13.6.9. :-\

I also experience this issue with Bitwarden 2024.7.1 (27455) on macOS Sonoma 14.6.1 & Safari 17.6 (19618.3.11.11.5)

The issue persists in Bitwarden 2024.8.1 if I turn off the autofill menu (i.e., the Bitwarden icon in the user & password fields) in the settings. This icon is annoying as it overlaps with the icon of Safari's password manager, which I can't turn off due to my requirement for passkeys in the iCloud keychain.
