Hello, I have an SCPH-102 (PAL) console. I have tried both the slot 2 images for this model (0bad7ea9 and 76b880e5 which are for BIOS 4.4 and 4.5, respectively) and the exploit runs and I can get into Unirom. However, when I try to play a game, I get

"Waiting for CD to become ready & unlocked. . . .

Not a valid CD or the drive is locked
Press X to exit."

The console still works with legit PAL games so the optical drive is functional. Any help appreciated.

You talking about burned discs? Try different burning speed, brand or burner. Probably the console struggles reading backups. Original pressed discs are thing, burned one another. The laser power needed is different so if the laser is worn out you can have reading issues like the console not able to recognise the disc at all.

Hi, I bought another PS1 console (this one is a SCPH-9002) and it has absolutely no problem using FreePSXBoot or TonyHax to play my backup discs. So there is definitely something specific to my PSone console that prevents the exploit working. I should have also mentioned that the PSone has no problem playing original black disc games.

The warranty sticker is intact. Any ideas?

Don't know what to say. I tested 4 different PAL PSone and never had an issue...

I solved the problem: it was a jammed lid sensor. I opened the console up and added some lubricant to the lid switch mechanism, and now it works fine :)
