Drive Areas

There are three main areas in which files may be acted upon. Each area is described in detail below.

  1. Personal Drive - this area is a space available for every member to store files. Files may be shared with others through the use of explicit permissions and web links.
  2. Unit Drive - this area, labeled simply "Drive" is a common area for squadron members with 'File Access' permission to organize, store, retrieve, and share files and folders.
  3. Event Drive - this area is where files associated with events are stored.

Personal Drive and Unit Drive Functions

The Personal Drive and Unit Drive areas have identical functionality. Files may be uploaded, deleted, shared, or moved.

  • Uploading files and folders Files or folders may be uploaded by using the upload interface available in every Drive view. It is depicted below.
    Drive Main Window

Files or folders may be uploaded by clicking the "SELECT FILES TO UPLOAD" button and browsing to the desired items using the file dialog window. File Upload Window

Files or folders may also be uploaded by using a "drag and drop" function from a file manager window to the designated area as depicted below. Drag and Drop

By clicking once on a file or folder, the options dialog will be displayed. Folders have options available which are identical to file options. Clicking on the "Delete" link removes the file or folder (and all folder contents) from the Drive application. File Options

Clicking on the "Sharing" icon displays the sharing dialog window. From this window files and folders may be shared to individual members within the unit, teams within the unit, all unit members, all authenticated members (any MDWG member), or publicly (no authentication required to download the file). Additionally, sharing options may be set to read-only or read and write, and sharing options may be changed at any time. Permissions Options

Event Drive Functions

Event Drive files may be selected from Personal Drive or Unit Drive files, or they may be uploaded. At this time, only those with event edit permission (Point of Contact, Manager, etc.) have access to upload, organize, or download Event Drive files. In a future release, Event Drive files will be displayed to the appropriate audience (Public, Member, POC) in the eventviewer page.
