6. Prospects for Future Versions

Prospects

This is a supplemental list of planned or considered improvements in the MAIDENS application, the main difference to the ones depicted in the known limitations document being that these are of much lower priority. Entries are grouped by the area they most prominently relate to.

Notation Editor

  • dedicated macro to add an arbitrary number of children to a given parent; for instance, to create 30 measures in one go;
  • a Gizmo Editor, to provide a more convenient way for entering and editing notes by click-dragging in the Score (vertically for pitch and horizontally for duration);
  • two new Editor actions:
    • clear music, to be available for Sections, Parts, Voices and Measures; it would allow the user to remove all musical content (Cluster nodes) without removing structure (Measures, Parts, etc.);
    • empty, to be available for Sections and Parts; it would allow the user to remove musical content and structure (child or related Measure nodes) in one go;

User Interface

  • revamping the Navigator, both in terms of UI and functionality. The revamped version would provide easier access to standard and recent locations, and a go into button for folders and disk volumes;

Music Generation

  • refine the way generators handle the case of multiple outputs; generators would either:
    • generate once based on longest target, then paste the resulting music over (truncating as needed). This is the current approach;
    • generate multiple times, for every target (optionally accounting for peripheral content);
    • generate for the cumulated span of all targets, then split the result (optionally adapting it around the joints);
