The service mesh can centralise some concerns about application layer TCP reliability, particularly between services in the cluster, and could therefore make sense as a default component in a highly productive cluster deployment.
This would be dependent on it being truly 'zero configuration' and fitting into the currently Helm-based deployment approach.
