Jiyva brainstorm

This went by on the RL discord, I (ebering) think there's enough of a good idea here that I don't want to have to find it through discord search.

Synopsis

Mutations are piety, given out by exploration. The idea is that you can exchange muts for actives (therefore the actives have to be pretty strong or piety gain has to be pretty fast).

hellmonk sketch:

Ok here is my draft proposal of new Jiyva. Jiyva gives special Jiyva mutations as you explore. Each mutation gift is a piety pip and there's an extra gift available at 6* to represent "max piety" so 7 mutation gifts total, after that J can reroll your current ones but won't add more. To make this work, every J mutation is a single level mut, so all current ones will get flattened and balance adjusted, aiming for “about as good as mutlevel 3 of a current Jiyva mut”. Abilities: * : passive rcorr and slime wall immunity. 2* : that spit out slimes when you take damage passive. 3* : Acid Ramparts (costs 1 mut). 4* : Slimify (costs 1 mut). 5* : Reroll your entire mutation set including non-J mutations , if there's any stat related thing it goes in this ability (costs 2 muts). 6* : Permanently lock in a J mutation for as long as you worship (effectively costs 1 mut) and maybe the slime rune unlock thing I guess, but I don't really intend to give the neutral slimes thing.

I think that jelly eating for piety is really an unworkable mechanic. You could save a form of itemdest/reduced item conduct if you wanted but it would have to be decoupled from the piety system

PleasingFungus: acid ramparts being piety limited means that you can turn off the 'no walk' restriction if you want

hellmonk: probably have the size scale (with invocations possibly? unsure if J needs to be an invo god)

hellmonk: I wouldn't include non J muts in piety

Commentary

hellmonk: that's definitely a drawback of the proposal though - using up a lot of mutation space for this weird piety system. also concerned that spending muts will feel bad in a way that spending piety does not

gammafunk: tension between mut cost (random character altering power disappears) and actives (short lived tactical thing) could have bad playful, depends on the J mutation set

ebering: Leaning into the "J is taken late" mechanic, give a chance to turn a wrath effect into a J mutation.
