At some point I created maven-publish.yaml, which is the currently active workflow that triggers on release and which seems to be working well. I guess that this was meant to replace the older release.yaml, which maybe wasn't working as intended and so I had manually disabled it, but the release.yaml file is still there and has never been run. It may as well be removed.
