Piece

A piece is generally produced by playing a card on your turn. See also card archetypes.

The terms 'piece' and 'creature' are interchangeable in this game.

Some pieces can be mounted. Some, like Paladins, can be promoted when they reach some certain criteria, like killing N other creatures, making M moves, etc.
