HbbTV has the ability to launch an app via DIAL without needing a modulator.
ATSC3 has this in theory but it may not be implemented in the real world (see A/338).

It would be good for a locally hosted WMAS and DPCTF instance to be able to discover a Smart TV supporting DIAL and push the URL of the Smart TV friendly launching page (#61) to a device under test.

Discussion

  • This can't be implemented in the browser because there are no browser APIs enabling use of SSDP.
  • It was assumed to be implemented in python (& included in the docker image)
  • There are python libraries covering various parts of DIAL.
