SambaNAS

Your request

I feel like I may be asking a silly question that others with more experience will find obvious, but how do I add a new share without the need for an additional disk/partition?

I've installed Home Assistant on a 2TB NVMe drive on my Pi 5 and I'd like to just create a new "storage" folder(s) and set up sharing for those, but it seems like I can only share the existing folders that show up by default or partition my disk to add others. Is that right?

If so, what is the safest method to partition up my Home Assistant drive? I don't suppose I'd be lucky enough to find a nice add-on for GUI goodness in the process? 😅

This Addon is not meant to create shares that are not disks. In your case, however, I don't understand the problem; you can use /media which is already mapped to your disk without any problems. I don't understand the advantage of partitioning the disk and then having an addon that remounts the partition and adds it to /media

When running the internal SSD drive only, is it possible to create subfolders in /media and share those with different users? I would not want to share the whole dir with everyone who should be able to use the NAS for backup purposes.

Ist there no (easy) way to create and share folders on existing drives separately? Iw ould be great to give individual access rights not only by drive but also by folder.

Hi,
First, thank you for the great Add-on!

I am also interested in letting different users access different subfolders on one drive with different rights.
I am using Samba NAS share to share a 4 TB drive where I have documents, music, photos and 1st-level backup for external devices.
Examples:

  • IP Camera saves motions-triggered events and I do not want it to have a chance to mess-up my documents (or anything else)
  • Users viewing photos and video with a view-only access.
  • Devices like smartphones backing-up to separate folders to preserve privacy of users.
  • and the list goes on ...

I have read about a command to mount USB drives which can also be used for mounting folders as drives.
Normally, one must edit some boot file on HASS IO and write a script (or some similar edits) to mount custom drives like this. I am not confident to do that yet.
And I see the opportunity in extending the functionality of your add-on.

Could you consider that please?
