Good Heart

Clojure interpreter on pure Ruby. Now supports only the small subset.

The Wizard of Oz: As for you, my galvanized friend, you want a heart. You don't know how lucky you are not to have one. Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.

The Tin Man: But, I... I still want one.

For what?

  1. It's just awesome.
  2. Share logic between Clojure and Ruby apps in stack.
  3. Gradually migrate from Ruby to Clojure (or back).
  4. Ability to create some tooling for Clojure on Ruby.

Roadmap bird-eye view

  • Read Clojure into Ruby's data structures
  • Evaluate AST
  • High-order functions
  • Closures
  • Many namespaces
  • Repl
  • Macros
  • Full clojure.core
  • Full core.async
  • A lot of other things...

Installation

Add this line to your application's Gemfile:

gem 'goodheart'

And then execute:

$ bundle

Or install it yourself as:

$ gem install goodheart

Usage

require "goodheart"

runtime = Clojure::Runtime.new
runtime.read("validation", open("shared_validation.clj").read)
runtime.namespace("validation").evaluate(["validate", data])

Development

After checking out the repo, run bin/setup to install dependencies. Then, run rake spec to run the tests. You can also run bin/console for an interactive prompt that will allow you to experiment.

To install this gem onto your local machine, run bundle exec rake install. To release a new version, update the version number in version.rb, and then run bundle exec rake release, which will create a git tag for the version, push git commits and tags, and push the .gem file to rubygems.org.
