Disable Gif Autoplay disables play period

In settings, when I select to disable the auto play of GIF, it does that, but then I have no way of playing the gif, short of right clicking and picking "open video in new tab". I don't want them to auto play, as the check mark would indicate, but I still want to be able to see them when I click on them or hover over them. even when I click on the tweet in question or open it in a new tab, it will give no way to play the GIF.
