Is there an example of how to use this? As written it's pretty confusing. I'm not sure how to use it, myself.

Suggest an edit:
Doesn't work in normal formulas. --> Only works with trigger formulas.

Ah, this function got added recently by @alexmojaki for type conversions (here). It's kind of internal, but visible during type conversions, which is why it makes some sense to document it (if anyone searches for it). But maybe better not to include it into public documentation?

I'm not sure how to use it, myself.

Bingo! You can't. Not in trigger formulas either.

I think it should remain documented, but maybe 'normal formulas' isn't sufficiently clear and broad.

How's this?

Internal function used by Grist during column type conversions. Not available for use in formulas or trigger formulas.
