License requirments of the EPSG dataset #37
Comments
So by doing what im doing in converting postcodes to addresses (as part of #36) am I interactive with this dataset? |
Yes, there is a lookup behind the scenes to figure out the right formula(s) and parameters to use. However, the EPSG license is permissive - the entire purpose of the dataset existing is for people to make use of it (including in commercial packages). The only commercial restriction is to stop people simply repackaging the (made available for free) data for money. Any use of the data is permitted. IANAL etc |
Perfect thanks for your help, geo data seems to be a license minefield! |
In the documentation here you make reference to using a
EPSG dataset
but not where its from, the license requirements of it & under what conditions the library interacts with it.Investigating the website https://epsg.org/download-dataset.html seems to make matters worse because you need a login to access the data set?
Its a concern because data sets like the ordnance survey come with very little onwards requirements but datasets licensed under other licenses (often ones from openstreetmaps / maptiller) can require you to release your database / data as public.
Can you shed some light into this please? 😄
