What is MySQL

MySQL is a database that can be used by a site script to hold its information.

PHP, like many scripts, doesn't hold display information. Instead, it relies on a the use of a database. It extracts the information from tables in the database.

This is usually why it is posible to edit pages in E107. Instead of editing the file, it will edit tables. This is also why you have users, and other features.
