Furnaces

Furnaces in BetterBeginnings are very different than in vanilla. While in vanilla Minecraft you can use the same block to cook meats, bake clay, and smelt ores, BetterBeginnings does not allow for that. Instead, these operations are split into three categories: Kilns, Brick Ovens, and Smelters. Currently each type of furnaces has two tiers.

##Kilns Kilns bake things like clay and sand. In the 1.0 update kilns will be used as the "catch-all" location for recipes that don't fit the other types of furnaces. Meat cooked in a kiln will be charred to a crisp, but no longer can give food poisoning. Obsidian Kilns simply process items more quickly.

##Brick Ovens Brick Ovens are used to cook food products. They a crafting interface for recipes which (used to) use the crafting table. The Nether Brick Oven uses lava (or other hot fluids) instead of solid fuel to process, and is very fuel-efficient.

##Smelters Smelters are used to process ores. In addition to fuel, smelters require gravel for most operations (though this is likely to be reworked to avoid excessive grind). The Ender Smelter processes more quickly and slightly more efficiently. Its otherworldly violet glow suggests an alternative fuel source.
