Black screen after logging #525
Comments
I can confirm that this is also happening on my end. Also, if you swipe three fingers up, the screen will show up, but in an overview mode. Swipe three fingers down and it goes back to black. I'd have to drop into a tty to reboot with "sudo reboot" because "reboot" alone doesn't work as it wants a "systemctl" command. This happens every single time I suspend. |
Same here. Not normally on first resume from hibernate, but often on the second. I see a flash of desktop, the greeter, then after login I get another flash of desktop, then black screen with pointer. Build as of 16/06/21. |
For me it happens without suspend, I've disabled suspend and hibernate. This is on ordinary screen locking |
This is now happening for me in a different pattern. On beta one, closing the lid never suspended the laptop (even though it is set to do so in the power settings), so I got used to pressing the power button to suspend. Now on beta 2, when I press the power button, the screen blinks to black then the lockscreen shows up to where I have to put in my password.

I have a XPS 7390. In Beta 2 I'm able to reproduce this issue every time by simply by locking the device (ctrl+l) or having the screen turn off automatically (assuming 'Lock after screen turns off' is enabled). After inputting the password I can only see the mouse move or see the overview by 3-finger swiping up. |
I just ran into this on the release version. After re-opening the lid of my laptop, I saw a flash of my unlocked desktop, then it flickered until the greeter showed up. After logging in, everything was black with only the cursor showing. The system didn't seem to react to keyboard input, but I could enter the overview and switch workspaces with the trackpad gestures. In the overview I could close windows normally, but dragging Terminal broke its window preview. I didn't try dragging other windows. I had Chrome and Epiphany open, as well as Telegram Desktop and Files, in case that matters. I switched to a TTY and back, but that didn't fix it either, so I just rebooted from TTY and now everything is back to normal. |
hi, For me it was resolved with the latest update from energy control panel. The problem was happening with the "change brightness" bug resolved by the latest energy panel update. |
Still reproducible on elementary 7, although the time the screen stays black seems shorter now. |
Black screen after logging in with the password. The system is locked only by being able to move the mouse cursor. After doing the manual shutdown and switching the machine back on the initial system normally
