This thread tracks PyPi releases of Evennia. If you prefer using
git
, we do continuous releases of code on themain
Evennia branch.Use
evennia --version
from your gamedir to see the version you are currently using (if you use avirtualenv
, make sure it's active).Evennia uses Semantic versioning with a format
x.y.z
orMAJOR.MINOR.PATCH
:a.b.z
, like1.1.1
,1.1.2
etc): These are backwards compatible fixes, security updates and refactorings. It does not require you to make any changes to your existing code.a.y.0
, like1.1.0
,1.2.0
etc): These are backwards compatible changes, such as new features and contribs. A minor releases can add considerabe new functionality - what matters is that it doesn't require you to change what you already have.x.0.0
, like1.0.0
,2.0.0
,3.0.0
etc). These are backwards incompatible changes, such as changing the API, how a setting is formatted or how some core functionality operates. A major release will often require you to update something on your end for your game to keep working normally. We will explain how along with the release but to be sure you may want to back up your code before you upgrade. Note that even a relative 'small' code change could trigger a 'major' release, if it breaks backwards-compatibility.As a reminder, how to upgrade Evennia:
If you are using
PyPi
packages withpip
virtualenv
(if you are using one) .pip install --upgrade evennia
evennia migrate
. Don't run anymakemigrations
operations, even if the prompt tells you to.evennia reboot
.If you are using
git
main
branchmain
branch updates faster than thePyPi
releases.virtualenv
(if you are using one) .cd
to theevennia
repo you cloned. Usegit branch
to verify you are in themain
branch.git pull
evennia migrate
