Hello,
Thanks for your work !
Use case : when I work I use different browsers depending on the type of content (one for testing customer sites -with the appropriate plugins-, one for production management, another for research, one for supplier extranets, etc (in order to better orient myself when there are a lot of open windows, especially when I am tired :)). Would it be possible to be able to indicate for a link in which browser (program) it should open (outside Thunderbird)? Thanks, Yves

Not if I understand you correctly, we don't actually get a say in what external app handles the URL, it's up to the OS/user's settings. We just pass the URL.

On the same issue, since recent TB updates (currently 78.4.0), the extension always opens URLs in a new Thunderbird window, despite configuring Thunderbird to open links in an external browser. TB recognised links open in an external browser. This is a pity as this is otherwise the most useful extention I use.

This works for me OK in 78.4 (Linux). Do you have Prefer New Window ticked in URL Link's prefs?

I have noticed the same thing as KeithBurston just above. Prefer New Window is ticked. TB 78.14.0/Win 7 Pro SP1.

I'll have another look and play. As well as having Prefer new window selected, also try changing Menu control to Hide the open in tab options (which shouldn't make a difference, but that's what I have working in front of me).

I have TB 78.11.0, but I doubt it's broken in a point release.

Well, it does make a difference :-) It works when changing Menu control to 'Hide the open in tab options' and it doesn't work if either of the other two options are chosen.

Ok, thanks, I'll try and figure out why…

I thought I had briefly seen this issue myself with a fresh install on the latest TB beta, but sitting down explicitly to look for it with the current 91.9 and the beta 101.0b3 I'm unable to make it go wrong :-(

That said, I am running with a locally tweaked coy of the extension, not the uploaded one, so maybe a combination of the latest changes and the latest TB has fixed things.

I aim to add a start-up tweak for TB that resets the prefs. (once) to a sane set for TB use (prefer new window, hide open in tabs) as that is the workflow I think most people would expect: links open in their preferred browser. After the one-off-ever change, people who do want the tab option will be able to reselect it.

Once that is uploaded we'll have to see if this sort of thing is still a problem for people.

I need to double check all functionality against the major changes in the upcoming TB 102 first.
