@FRKFFR I can't make any changes to the code/repo because it does not have a license, according to Github copyright falls under the name of the original developer and we cant modify the code.

Source: https://docs.github.com/en/repositories/managing-your-repositorys-settings-and-features/customizing-your-repository/licensing-a-repository#choosing-the-right-license

You're under no obligation to choose a license. However, without a license, the default copyright laws apply, meaning that you retain all rights to your source code and no one may reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from your work.

I remember reading that there's a tool for auto updating the manifest. Anyone knows about this?

I did a simple google search and found a blog post on Chrome Developers which links to a Extension Manifest Converter that was developed.
Here is the Github link: https://github.com/GoogleChromeLabs/extension-manifest-converter
As well as the blog post: https://developer.chrome.com/blog/extension-manifest-converter/
