If I recall correctly, the same person can have more than one role in a dataset (e.g. originator plus metadata author). In the Russian data papers we got a questions if more than one organizational affiliation is possible for the same person within the same role, e.g. when Jane Smith is a metadata author, but she works 50% in a research institute and 50% for a protected area. It is common in academia+ circles to have more than one affiliations, and people are used to indicate, where relevant, e.g. using superscripts (see example of Andy Taylor here). It seems possible to add more than one affiliation using the free text as discussed with @ManonGros, but perhaps GBIF roles & contact model, as well as new versions of IPT can allow more than one affiliation per person per role. I suspect this will be futureproof in the case indexing organization is a possibility in the future: one can imagine publisher pages with some sort of personal contributions statistics. Alternative is to do this via ORCID, but roles x organizations modelling may become more difficult. Also note that people use affiliations selectively: in publications certainly, but with data publishing this would be applicable. This may look like an insignificant feature for GBIF index, but if, as we hope, people will start using the data actions & outputs as or in the academic performance metrics, accurate handling of affiliation data will be important. Also, this would directly feed into a personal profile.
