Follow these steps:

go to https://id.atlassian.com/manage/api-tokens and create a token
close all the VsCode instances
open one VsCode instance
setup the jira-plugin with:
4.a url: your base Atlassian url (https please!)
4.b username: your full email
4.c password: the token
