Is this repo still active (planned to continue development) or is the https://github.com/gonum/hdf5 the recommended way?

hi,

yeah... this hasn't seen much activity.
the work is laid out in #1 (with links to the specs and all) - w/o much gotchas I am aware of.

and it may happen that $WORK leads me to (again) want a pure-Go HDF5 library.
but for the time being, gonum/hdf5 is probably the best stopgap solution.
