Issues and steps to reproduce

Looking at the existing issues and PRs, plus the code frequency, it doesn't appear as if this repository is being actively maintained, therefore I'm curious to know what the plans are for maintaining and enhancing this repository in the near future, if there are any.

Most issues from the last year or so don't have any activity and several PRs have not been merged in. According to the code frequency it doesn't really seem like much work has been done since 2016-17 when the repo was first introduced.

Although using this library solves the majority of my own particular use-case, there are issues with the existing code that would need to be fixed. I'm happy to make a PR to try and help solve my particular issue, but I'm concerned about the risk involved in depending on this repo if it is not being actively maintained as it could be susceptible to issues in the future. (Full disclosure: I've been burned before.)

Expected behavior

It would be helpful to know the status of this repository and plans for future enhancement / maintenance.
