What is needed for a new release? I see a couple of open issues but is there a list of missing but planned features, bugs that need to be fixed first, etc?

I think the main change that @paladox is referring to here is the log4j2 backend support. Something that I'm eager to see in the next release as well

log4j1 has a vulnerability as reported as https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2019-17571 any progress with doing this please? :)

This gets more pressing as log4j 2.1.15 dependencies are no longer resolvable on maven central.
