Jiri Pirko says: ==================== devlink: finish conversion to generated split_ops This patchset converts the remaining genetlink commands to generated split_ops and removes the existing small_ops arrays entirely alongside with shared netlink attribute policy. Patches #1-gregkh#6 are just small preparations and small fixes on multiple places. Note that couple of patches contain the "Fixes" tag but no need to put them into -net tree. Patch gregkh#7 is a simple rename preparation Patch gregkh#8 is the main one in this set and adds actual definitions of cmds in to yaml file. Patches gregkh#9-gregkh#10 finalize the change removing bits that are no longer in use. ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20231021112711.660606-1-jiri@resnulli.us Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

Ido Schimmel says: ==================== Add MDB get support This patchset adds MDB get support, allowing user space to request a single MDB entry to be retrieved instead of dumping the entire MDB. Support is added in both the bridge and VXLAN drivers. Patches #1-gregkh#6 are small preparations in both drivers. Patches gregkh#7-gregkh#8 add the required uAPI attributes for the new functionality and the MDB get net device operation (NDO), respectively. Patches gregkh#9-gregkh#10 implement the MDB get NDO in both drivers. Patch gregkh#11 registers a handler for RTM_GETMDB messages in rtnetlink core. The handler derives the net device from the ifindex specified in the ancillary header and invokes its MDB get NDO. Patches gregkh#12-gregkh#13 add selftests by converting tests that use MDB dump with grep to the new MDB get functionality. iproute2 changes can be found here [1]. v2: * Patch gregkh#7: Add a comment to describe attributes structure. * Patch gregkh#9: Add a comment above spin_lock_bh(). …f-times' Eduard Zingerman says: ==================== verify callbacks as if they are called unknown number of times This series updates verifier logic for callback functions handling. Current master simulates callback body execution exactly once, which leads to verifier not detecting unsafe programs like below: static int unsafe_on_zero_iter_cb(__u32 idx, struct num_context *ctx) { ctx->i = 0; return 0; } SEC("?raw_tp") int unsafe_on_zero_iter(void *unused) { struct num_context loop_ctx = { .i = 32 }; __u8 choice_arr[2] = { 0, 1 }; bpf_loop(100, unsafe_on_zero_iter_cb, &loop_ctx, 0); return choice_arr[loop_ctx.i]; } This was reported previously in [0]. The basic idea of the fix is to schedule callback entry state for verification in env->head until some identical, previously visited state in current DFS state traversal is found. Same logic as with open coded iterators, and builds on top recent fixes [1] for those. The series is structured as follows: - patches gregkh#1,2,3 update strobemeta, xdp_synproxy selftests and bpf_loop_bench benchmark to allow convergence of the bpf_loop callback states; - patches gregkh#4,5 just shuffle the code a bit; - patch gregkh#6 is the main part of the series; - patch gregkh#7 adds test cases for gregkh#6; - patch gregkh#8 extend patch gregkh#6 with same speculative scalar widening logic, as used for open coded iterators; - patch gregkh#9 adds test cases for gregkh#8; - patch gregkh#10 extends patch gregkh#6 to track maximal number of callback executions specifically for bpf_loop(); - patch gregkh#11 adds test cases for gregkh#10. Veristat results comparing this series to master+patches gregkh#1,2,3 using selftests show the following difference: File Program States (A) States (B) States (DIFF) ------------------------- ------------- ---------- ---------- ------------- bpf_loop_bench.bpf.o benchmark 1 2 +1 (+100.00%) pyperf600_bpf_loop.bpf.o on_event 322 407 +85 (+26.40%) strobemeta_bpf_loop.bpf.o on_event 113 151 +38 (+33.63%) xdp_synproxy_kern.bpf.o syncookie_tc 341 291 -50 (-14.66%) xdp_synproxy_kern.bpf.o syncookie_xdp 344 301 -43 (-12.50%) Veristat results comparing this series to master using Tetragon BPF files [2] also show some differences. States diff varies from +2% to +15% on 23 programs out of 186, no new failures. Changelog: - V3 [5] -> V4, changes suggested by Andrii: - validate mark_chain_precision() result in patch gregkh#10; - renaming s/cumulative_callback_depth/callback_unroll_depth/. - V2 [4] -> V3: - fixes in expected log messages for test cases: - callback_result_precise; - parent_callee_saved_reg_precise_with_callback; - parent_stack_slot_precise_with_callback; - renamings (suggested by Alexei): - s/callback_iter_depth/cumulative_callback_depth/ - s/is_callback_iter_next/calls_callback/ - s/mark_callback_iter_next/mark_calls_callback/ - prepare_func_exit() updated to exit with -EFAULT when callee->in_callback_fn is true but calls_callback() is not true for callsite; - test case 'bpf_loop_iter_limit_nested' rewritten to use return value check instead of verifier log message checks (suggested by Alexei). - V1 [3] -> V2, changes suggested by Andrii: - small changes for error handling code in __check_func_call(); - callback body processing log is now matched in relevant verifier_subprog_precision.c tests; - R1 passed to bpf_loop() is now always marked as precise; - log level 2 message for bpf_loop() iteration termination instead of iteration depth messages; - __no_msg macro removed; - bpf_loop_iter_limit_nested updated to avoid using __no_msg; - commit message for patch gregkh#3 updated according to Alexei's request. When scanning namespaces, it is possible to get valid data from the first call to nvme_identify_ns() in nvme_alloc_ns(), but not from the second call in nvme_update_ns_info_block(). In particular, if the NSID becomes inactive between the two commands, a storage device may return a buffer filled with zero as per 4.1.5.1. In this case, we can get a kernel crash due to a divide-by-zero in blk_stack_limits() because ns->lba_shift will be set to zero. commit 830a2a4 upstream. If a BTI exception is taken from EL1, the entry code will treat this as an unhandled exception and will panic() the kernel. This is inconsistent with the way we handle FPAC exceptions, which have a dedicated handler and only necessarily kill the thread from which the exception was taken from, and we don't log all the information that could be relevant to debug the issue. The code in do_bti() has: BUG_ON(!user_mode(regs)); ... and it seems like the intent was to call this for EL1 BTI exceptions, as with FPAC, but this was omitted due to an oversight. This patch adds separate EL0 and EL1 BTI exception handlers, with the latter calling die() directly to report the original context the BTI exception was taken from. This matches our handling of FPAC exceptions. Prior to this patch, a BTI failure is reported as: | Unhandled 64-bit el1h sync exception on CPU0, ESR 0x0000000034000002 -- BTI | CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 5.19.0-rc3-00131-g7d937ff0221d-dirty gregkh#9 | Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) | pstate: 20400809 (nzCv daif +PAN -UAO -TCO -DIT -SSBS BTYPE=-c) | pc : test_bti_callee+0x4/0x10 | lr : test_bti_caller+0x1c/0x28 | sp : ffff80000800bdf0 | x29: ffff80000800bdf0 x28: 0000000000000000 x27: 0000000000000000 | x26: 0000000000000000 x25: 0000000000000000 x24: 0000000000000000 | x23: ffff80000a2b8000 x22: 0000000000000000 x21: 0000000000000000 | x20: ffff8000099fa5b0 x19: ffff800009ff7000 x18: fffffbfffda37000 | x17: 3120676e696d7573 x16: 7361202c6e6f6974 x15: 0000000041a90000 | x14: 0040000000000041 x13: 0040000000000001 x12: ffff000001a90000 | x11: fffffbfffda37480 x10: 0068000000000703 x9 : 0001000040000000 | x8 : 0000000000090000 x7 : 0068000000000f03 x6 : 0060000000000f83 | x5 : ffff80000a2b6000 x4 : ffff0000028d0000 x3 : ffff800009f78378 | x2 : 0000000000000000 x1 : 0000000040210000 x0 : ffff8000080257e4 | Kernel panic - not syncing: Unhandled exception | CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 5.19.0-rc3-00131-g7d937ff0221d-dirty gregkh#9 | Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) | Call trace: | dump_backtrace.part.0+0xcc/0xe0 | show_stack+0x18/0x5c | dump_stack_lvl+0x64/0x80 | dump_stack+0x18/0x34 | panic+0x170/0x360 | arm64_exit_nmi.isra.0+0x0/0x80 | el1h_64_sync_handler+0x64/0xd0 | el1h_64_sync+0x64/0x68 | test_bti_callee+0x4/0x10 | smp_cpus_done+0xb0/0xbc | smp_init+0x7c/0x8c | kernel_init_freeable+0x128/0x28c | kernel_init+0x28/0x13c | ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 With this patch applied, a BTI failure is reported as: | Internal error: Oops - BTI: 0000000034000002 [gregkh#1] PREEMPT SMP | Modules linked in: | CPU: 0 PID: 1 Comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 5.19.0-rc3-00132-g0ad98265d582-dirty gregkh#8 | Hardware name: linux,dummy-virt (DT) | pstate: 20400809 (nzCv daif +PAN -UAO -TCO -DIT -SSBS BTYPE=-c) | pc : test_bti_callee+0x4/0x10 | lr : test_bti_caller+0x1c/0x28 | sp : ffff80000800bdf0 | x29: ffff80000800bdf0 x28: 0000000000000000 x27: 0000000000000000 | x26: 0000000000000000 x25: 0000000000000000 x24: 0000000000000000 | x23: ffff80000a2b8000 x22: 0000000000000000 x21: 0000000000000000 | x20: ffff8000099fa5b0 x19: ffff800009ff7000 x18: fffffbfffda37000 | x17: 3120676e696d7573 x16: 7361202c6e6f6974 x15: 0000000041a90000 | x14: 0040000000000041 x13: 0040000000000001 x12: ffff000001a90000 | x11: fffffbfffda37480 x10: 0068000000000703 x9 : 0001000040000000 | x8 : 0000000000090000 x7 : 0068000000000f03 x6 : 0060000000000f83 | x5 : ffff80000a2b6000 x4 : ffff0000028d0000 x3 : ffff800009f78378 | x2 : 0000000000000000 x1 : 0000000040210000 x0 : ffff800008025804 | Call trace: | test_bti_callee+0x4/0x10 | smp_cpus_done+0xb0/0xbc | smp_init+0x7c/0x8c | kernel_init_freeable+0x128/0x28c | kernel_init+0x28/0x13c | ret_from_fork+0x10/0x20 | Code: d50323bf d53cd040 d65f03c0 d503233f (d50323bf) Signed-off-by: Mark Rutland <mark.rutland@arm.com> Reviewed-by: Mark Brown <broonie@kernel.org> Reviewed-by: Anshuman Khandual <anshuman.khandual@arm.com> Cc: Alexandru Elisei <alexandru.elisei@arm.com> Cc: Amit Daniel Kachhap <amit.kachhap@arm.com> Cc: James Morse <james.morse@arm.com> Cc: Will Deacon <will@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220913101732.3925290-6-mark.rutland@arm.com Signed-off-by: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Jinjie Ruan <ruanjinjie@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

In commit d02c48f ("bpf: Make struct task_struct an RCU-safe type"), bpf_task_acquire() was updated to be KF_RET_NULL. Eishun pointed out that the userland example scheduler no longer loads, and it's because the usersched_task() helper function in scx_example_userland originally used bpf_get_current_task_btf() to avoid having to do a NULL check in the caller, but this no longer works due to bpf_task_acquire() being NULL-able. Let's just remove that weird logic that used bpf_get_current_task_btf(). When bpf_assert() lands, we can just use that to simplify instead. Andrii Nakryiko says: ==================== BPF register bounds logic and testing improvements This patch set adds a big set of manual and auto-generated test cases validating BPF verifier's register bounds tracking and deduction logic. See details in the last patch. We start with building a tester that validates existing <range> vs <scalar> verifier logic for range bounds. To make all this work, BPF verifier's logic needed a bunch of improvements to handle some cases that previously were not covered. This had no implications as to correctness of verifier logic, but it was incomplete enough to cause significant disagreements with alternative implementation of register bounds logic that tests in this patch set implement. So we need BPF verifier logic improvements to make all the tests pass. This is what we do in patches #3 through #9. The end goal of this work, though, is to extend BPF verifier range state tracking such as to allow to derive new range bounds when comparing non-const registers. There is some more investigative work required to investigate and fix existing potential issues with range tracking as part of ALU/ALU64 operations, so <range> x <range> part of v5 patch set ([0]) is dropped until these issues are sorted out. For now, we include preparatory refactorings and clean ups, that set up BPF verifier code base to extend the logic to <range> vs <range> logic in subsequent patch set. Patches #10-#16 perform preliminary refactorings without functionally changing anything. But they do clean up check_cond_jmp_op() logic and generalize a bunch of other pieces in is_branch_taken() logic. [0] https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/netdevbpf/list/?series=797178&state=* v5->v6: - dropped <range> vs <range> patches (original patches #18 through #23) to add more register range sanity checks and fix preexisting issues; - comments improvements, addressing other feedback on first 17 patches (Eduard, Alexei); v4->v5: - added entirety of verifier reg bounds tracking changes, now handling <range> vs <range> cases (Alexei); - added way more comments trying to explain why deductions added are correct, hopefully they are useful and clarify things a bit (Daniel, Shung-Hsi); - added two preliminary selftests fixes necessary for RELEASE=1 build to work again, it keeps breaking. v3->v4: - improvements to reg_bounds tester (progress report, split 32-bit and 64-bit ranges, fix various verbosity output issues, etc); v2->v3: - fix a subtle little-endianness assumption inside parge_reg_state() (CI); v1->v2: - fix compilation when building selftests with llvm-16 toolchain (CI). ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20231102033759.2541186-1-andrii@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Alexei Starovoitov <ast@kernel.org>

[ Upstream commit b684c09 ] ppc_save_regs() skips one stack frame while saving the CPU register states. Instead of saving current R1, it pulls the previous stack frame pointer. When vmcores caused by direct panic call (such as `echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger`), are debugged with gdb, gdb fails to show the backtrace correctly. On further analysis, it was found that it was because of mismatch between r1 and NIP. GDB uses NIP to get current function symbol and uses corresponding debug info of that function to unwind previous frames, but due to the mismatching r1 and NIP, the unwinding does not work, and it fails to unwind to the 2nd frame and hence does not show the backtrace. GDB backtrace with vmcore of kernel without this patch: --------- (gdb) bt #0 0xc0000000002a53e8 in crash_setup_regs (oldregs=<optimized out>, newregs=0xc000000004f8f8d8) at ./arch/powerpc/include/asm/kexec.h:69 #1 __crash_kexec (regs=<optimized out>) at kernel/kexec_core.c:974 #2 0x0000000000000063 in ?? () #3 0xc000000003579320 in ?? () --------- Further analysis revealed that the mismatch occurred because "ppc_save_regs" was saving the previous stack's SP instead of the current r1. This patch fixes this by storing current r1 in the saved pt_regs. GDB backtrace with vmcore of patched kernel: -------- (gdb) bt #0 0xc0000000002a53e8 in crash_setup_regs (oldregs=0x0, newregs=0xc00000000670b8d8) at ./arch/powerpc/include/asm/kexec.h:69 #1 __crash_kexec (regs=regs@entry=0x0) at kernel/kexec_core.c:974 #2 0xc000000000168918 in panic (fmt=fmt@entry=0xc000000001654a60 "sysrq triggered crash\n") at kernel/panic.c:358 #3 0xc000000000b735f8 in sysrq_handle_crash (key=<optimized out>) at drivers/tty/sysrq.c:155 #4 0xc000000000b742cc in __handle_sysrq (key=key@entry=99, check_mask=check_mask@entry=false) at drivers/tty/sysrq.c:602 #5 0xc000000000b7506c in write_sysrq_trigger (file=<optimized out>, buf=<optimized out>, count=2, ppos=<optimized out>) at drivers/tty/sysrq.c:1163 #6 0xc00000000069a7bc in pde_write (ppos=<optimized out>, count=<optimized out>, buf=<optimized out>, file=<optimized out>, pde=0xc00000000362cb40) at fs/proc/inode.c:340 #7 proc_reg_write (file=<optimized out>, buf=<optimized out>, count=<optimized out>, ppos=<optimized out>) at fs/proc/inode.c:352 #8 0xc0000000005b3bbc in vfs_write (file=file@entry=0xc000000006aa6b00, buf=buf@entry=0x61f498b4f60 <error: Cannot access memory at address 0x61f498b4f60>, count=count@entry=2, pos=pos@entry=0xc00000000670bda0) at fs/read_write.c:582 #9 0xc0000000005b4264 in ksys_write (fd=<optimized out>, buf=0x61f498b4f60 <error: Cannot access memory at address 0x61f498b4f60>, count=2) at fs/read_write.c:637 #10 0xc00000000002ea2c in system_call_exception (regs=0xc00000000670be80, r0=<optimized out>) at arch/powerpc/kernel/syscall.c:171 #11 0xc00000000000c270 in system_call_vectored_common () at arch/powerpc/kernel/interrupt_64.S:192 -------- Nick adds: So this now saves regs as though it was an interrupt taken in the caller, at the instruction after the call to ppc_save_regs, whereas previously the NIP was there, but R1 came from the caller's caller and that mismatch is what causes gdb's dwarf unwinder to go haywire. [ Upstream commit b18cba0 ] Commit 9130b8d ("SUNRPC: allow for upcalls for the same uid but different gss service") introduced `auth` argument to __gss_find_upcall(), but in gss_pipe_downcall() it was left as NULL since it (and auth->service) was not (yet) determined. When multiple upcalls with the same uid and different service are ongoing, it could happen that __gss_find_upcall(), which returns the first match found in the pipe->in_downcall list, could not find the correct gss_msg corresponding to the downcall we are looking for. Moreover, it might return a msg which is not sent to rpc.gssd yet. We could see mount.nfs process hung in D state with multiple mount.nfs are executed in parallel. The call trace below is of CentOS 7.9 kernel-3.10.0-1160.24.1.el7.x86_64 but we observed the same hang w/ elrepo kernel-ml-6.0.7-1.el7. PID: 71258 TASK: ffff91ebd4be0000 CPU: 36 COMMAND: "mount.nfs" #0 [ffff9203ca3234f8] __schedule at ffffffffa3b8899f #1 [ffff9203ca323580] schedule at ffffffffa3b88eb9 #2 [ffff9203ca323590] gss_cred_init at ffffffffc0355818 [auth_rpcgss] #3 [ffff9203ca323658] rpcauth_lookup_credcache at ffffffffc0421ebc [sunrpc] #4 [ffff9203ca3236d8] gss_lookup_cred at ffffffffc0353633 [auth_rpcgss] #5 [ffff9203ca3236e8] rpcauth_lookupcred at ffffffffc0421581 [sunrpc] #6 [ffff9203ca323740] rpcauth_refreshcred at ffffffffc04223d3 [sunrpc] #7 [ffff9203ca3237a0] call_refresh at ffffffffc04103dc [sunrpc] #8 [ffff9203ca3237b8] __rpc_execute at ffffffffc041e1c9 [sunrpc] #9 [ffff9203ca323820] rpc_execute at ffffffffc0420a48 [sunrpc] The scenario is like this. Let's say there are two upcalls for services A and B, A -> B in pipe->in_downcall, B -> A in pipe->pipe. When rpc.gssd reads pipe to get the upcall msg corresponding to service B from pipe->pipe and then writes the response, in gss_pipe_downcall the msg corresponding to service A will be picked because only uid is used to find the msg and it is before the one for B in pipe->in_downcall. And the process waiting for the msg corresponding to service A will be woken up. Actual scheduing of that process might be after rpc.gssd processes the next msg. In rpc_pipe_generic_upcall it clears msg->errno (for A). The process is scheduled to see gss_msg->ctx == NULL and gss_msg->msg.errno == 0, therefore it cannot break the loop in gss_create_upcall and is never woken up after that. This patch adds a simple check to ensure that a msg which is not sent to rpc.gssd yet is not chosen as the matching upcall upon receiving a downcall. commit d8b90d6 upstream. Petr Machata says: ==================== mlxsw: Support for nexthop group statistics ECMP is a fundamental component in L3 designs. However, it's fragile. Many factors influence whether an ECMP group will operate as intended: hash policy (i.e. the set of fields that contribute to ECMP hash calculation), neighbor validity, hash seed (which might lead to polarization) or the type of ECMP group used (hash-threshold or resilient). At the same time, collection of statistics that would help an operator determine that the group performs as desired, is difficult. Support for nexthop group statistics and their HW collection has been introduced recently. In this patch set, add HW stats collection support to mlxsw. This patchset progresses as follows: - Patches gregkh#1 and gregkh#2 add nexthop IDs to notifiers. - Patches gregkh#3 and gregkh#4 are code-shaping. - Patches gregkh#5, gregkh#6 and gregkh#7 adjust the flow counter code. - Patches gregkh#8 and gregkh#9 add HW nexthop counters. - Patch gregkh#10 adjusts the HW counter code to allow sharing the same counter for several resilient group buckets with the same NH ID. - Patch gregkh#11 adds a selftest. ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/cover.1709901020.git.petrm@nvidia.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

Passing a maximum attribute type to nlmsg_parse() that is larger than the size of the passed policy will result in an out-of-bounds access [1] when the attribute type is used as an index into the policy array. Fix by setting the maximum attribute type according to the policy size, as is already done for RTM_NEWNEXTHOP messages. Add a test case that triggers the bug. No regressions in fib nexthops tests: # ./fib_nexthops.sh [...] Tests passed: 236 Tests failed: 0 [1] BUG: KASAN: global-out-of-bounds in __nla_validate_parse+0x1e53/0x2940 Read of size 1 at addr ffffffff99ab4d20 by task ip/610 CPU: 3 PID: 610 Comm: ip Not tainted 6.8.0-rc7-custom-gd435d6e3e161 gregkh#9 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996), BIOS 1.16.2-1.fc38 04/01/2014 Call Trace: <TASK> dump_stack_lvl+0x8f/0xe0 print_report+0xcf/0x670 kasan_report+0xd8/0x110 __nla_validate_parse+0x1e53/0x2940 __nla_parse+0x40/0x50 rtm_del_nexthop+0x1bd/0x400 rtnetlink_rcv_msg+0x3cc/0xf20 netlink_rcv_skb+0x170/0x440 netlink_unicast+0x540/0x820 netlink_sendmsg+0x8d3/0xdb0 ____sys_sendmsg+0x31f/0xa60 ___sys_sendmsg+0x13a/0x1e0 __sys_sendmsg+0x11c/0x1f0 do_syscall_64+0xc5/0x1d0 entry_SYSCALL_64_after_hwframe+0x63/0x6b [...] The buggy address belongs to the variable: rtm_nh_policy_del+0x20/0x40 Fixes: 2118f93 ("net: nexthop: Adjust netlink policy parsing for a new attribute") Reported-by: Eric Dumazet <edumazet@google.com> Closes: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/CANn89i+UNcG0PJMW5X7gOMunF38ryMh=L1aeZUKH3kL4UdUqag@mail.gmail.com/ Reported-by: syzbot+65bb09a7208ce3d4a633@syzkaller.appspotmail.com Closes: https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/00000000000088981b06133bc07b@google.com/ Signed-off-by: Ido Schimmel <idosch@nvidia.com> Reviewed-by: David Ahern <dsahern@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240311162307.545385-4-idosch@nvidia.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

Petr Machata says: ==================== selftests: Fixes for kernel CI As discussed on the bi-weekly call on Jan 30, and in mailing around kernel CI effort, some changes are desirable in the suite of forwarding selftests the better to work with the CI tooling. Namely: - The forwarding selftests use a configuration file where names of interfaces are defined and various variables can be overridden. There is also forwarding.config.sample that users can use as a template to refer to when creating the config file. What happens a fair bit is that users either do not know about this at all, or simply forget, and are confused by cryptic failures about interfaces that cannot be created. In patches amazonlinux#1 - amazonlinux#3 have lib.sh just be the single source of truth with regards to which variables exist. That includes the topology variables which were previously only in the sample file, and any "tweak variables", such as what tools to use, sleep times, etc. forwarding.config.sample then becomes just a placeholder with a couple examples. Unless specific HW should be exercised, or specific tools used, the defaults are usually just fine. - Several net/forwarding/ selftests (and one net/ one) cannot be run on veth pairs, they need an actual HW interface to run on. They are generic in the sense that any capable HW should pass them, which is why they have been put to net/forwarding/ as opposed to drivers/net/, but they do not generalize to veth. The fact that these tests are in net/forwarding/, but still complaining when run, is confusing. In patches amazonlinux#4 - gregkh#6 move these tests to a new directory drivers/net/hw. - The following patches extend the codebase to handle well test results other than pass and fail. Patch gregkh#7 is preparatory. It converts several log_test_skip to XFAIL, so that tests do not spuriously end up returning non-0 when they are not supposed to. In patches gregkh#8 - gregkh#10, introduce some missing ksft constants, then support having those constants in RET, and then finally in EXIT_STATUS. - The traffic scheduler tests generate a large amount of network traffic to test the behavior of the scheduler. This demands a relatively high-performance computer. On slow machines, such as with a debugging kernel, the test would spuriously fail. It can still be useful to "go through the motions" though, to possibly catch bugs in setup of the scheduler graph and passing packets around. Thus we still want to run the tests, just with lowered demands. To that end, in patches gregkh#11 - gregkh#12, introduce an environment variable KSFT_MACHINE_SLOW, with obvious meaning. Tests can then make checks more lenient, such as mark failures as XFAIL. A helper, xfail_on_slow, is provided to mark performance-sensitive parts of the selftest. - In patch gregkh#13, use a similar mechanism to mark a NH group stats selftest to XFAIL HW stats tests when run on VETH pairs. - All these changes complicate the hitherto straightforward logging and checking logic, so in patch gregkh#14, add a selftest that checks this functionality in lib.sh. v1 (vs. an RFC circulated through linux-kselftest): - Patch gregkh#9: - Clarify intended usage by s/set_ret/ret_set_ksft_status/, s/nret/ksft_status/ ==================== Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/cover.1711464583.git.petrm@nvidia.com Signed-off-by: Jakub Kicinski <kuba@kernel.org>

[ Upstream commit f8bbc07 ] vhost_worker will call tun call backs to receive packets. If too many illegal packets arrives, tun_do_read will keep dumping packet contents. When console is enabled, it will costs much more cpu time to dump packet and soft lockup will be detected. net_ratelimit mechanism can be used to limit the dumping rate.
