Stolen Item Registry I'm looking to build an app that allows users to register descriptions of their recently stolen goods so that they can receive realtime notifications if similar goods appear for sale on sites like Craigslist, eBay, etc. Will use 3taps API. Disclaimer: I work for 3taps. I'm open to other ideas. I'm a generalist, but best at back-end development.

Using hardware AND software, namely the MBED
We're going to be developing with the MBED platform mbed.org to build something awesome! The mbed can connect to the internet and we have an accelerometer, gyroscope, and several buttons. We're still brainstorming let us know if anyone has any ideas!

Hacking on the Brand New USA TODAY Census API Just the other day, USA TODAY launched their census API at http://developer.usatoday.com/docs/read/Census . If you're a fan of their awesome infographics on census data, you can now be a geek fan of the work they put behind exposing all of this census data with a simple API. The data spans from 1790 (for real) to 2010. I'm interested in hacking an app that include housing and population data -- and other than the usual suspects of mashups (maps, etc.), thebn adding some other dimensions of data bridged by lat/long. Real estate apps solve real problems, and there's a plethora of sweet APIs out there to snag data from. If you feel me, and am looking for someone to hack a project with, reach out via e-mail, IM, or find me by the Mashery Hack Shortcuts table during the hackathon.

Make consuming media on iOS suck less.
As you probably know, trying to watch a video on your iPhone/iPad is a painstaking process - download the movie, convert it, plug in your device, then sync/copy it over. I think it should be instant. I have a good idea of the layout/architecture of the app (both on the frontend and backend) - looking for an iOS dev who likes the idea and wants to join me and make watching videos on iOS easy-- maybe even fun.

Socially enabled spacecraft web database
My idea is to implement a social web database for active spacecraft. There currently are different resources on the web for this information, but it is neither navigational from a data perspective or social/Web 2.0 in its functionality.

Looking to join with one or more RoR devs, ideally we can discuss ideas beforehand. I have two solid ideas that leverage Facebook, either can be built in 24 hours. First offers a more natural online "dating" experience that is kind of obvious but hasn't been done before, second is group gifting with clever use of the Facebook wall. Both have natural viral user acquisition aspects. My first "Facebook app", mytype.com, has >1 million users and revenue. I've only participated in one hackathon-like contest before -- Apps for Democracy -- and took 1st place out of 50 apps.

SWD ISO fun, daring, focused team to hack with! I've got some ideas, but nothing I'm wed to yet. Recent things I've helped build include Cloak, Walk Score, and WhereBeUs. These days, I'm most proficient with Python, Django, App Engine, AWS, Chef, Fabric, and Objective C. I've been known to sling some ruby and rails from time to time.

I'm a Yale undergraduate majoring in Computer Science and I'll be interning with Microsoft this summer. I've been working on startups since I got to college, the current one is an exercise partner matching service for Facebook. My team has worked out the business logic behind the idea and I am looking for one or more Ruby-on-Rails devs to help me a prototype. Looking forward to coding in a product development setting (as opposed to academic projects) and working with an energetic team of hackers. Contact me if you're interested.

Fightchart! Who would win in a fight: Pacquiao or Mayweather? Superman or Batman? Chuck Norris or God? These are the important questions that keep most of us up at night. Let's answer them once and for all. I'm thinking of building an app similar in spirit to "facemash". Basic functionality would be something like allowing users to pair people up to fight, vote, share, and comment on who would win the battle. It's sure to spur great intellectual debates. I'm more of a backend server (C++/Python) programmer, so it would be nice to pair up with individuals who are design/front-end oriented (HTML/CSS/JQuery, etc). I'm set on using Python/Pyramid on the backend. If you're interested in working on that set of technology, hit me up as well. I'm confident we'll be able to bang out basic functionality in a few hours, hopefully spend the rest of the time taking it to some crazy new directions and watching hilarity ensue. Thanks -Brian

Project Sauron (see: Eye of Sauron)
It's basically a in-store, real-time personalization system:

1. Use a camera (see Buglabs) to capture a photo of a person at a point of sale (helmet cam/handheld).
2. Use the face.com API to figure out who that person is.
3. Grab metadata from FB about that person's likes, affiliations, present their dossier to sales clerk.
4. Use a recommendation engine to offer that person (or sales clerk) customized offers.

We'll need the following skill-sets:
# Graphic Designer - to make our site look awesome!
# Web Developer - to build the presentation layer (CSS, JQuery).
# Buglabs Coder - to grab images from a camera module, and post to an app server. Bring duct tape to assemble helmet cam :)
# Face.com API developer to fetch the identity of the person in picture.
# Facebook API developer to fetch users metadata (likes/groups/etc).
# Back-end developer to build recommendation engine, and handle integration with other modules.

Hacking Geo-Data for Personalization using SimpleGeo and Quova I'd like to build a platform for developers that provides extremely useful data for the intent of adding to the instant-personalization dimension of apps. So, based on location, rather than presenting canned info for syndication, we provide interesting soft-touch data that can make an app feel warm, fuzzy and familiar. SimpleGeo (http://simplegeo.com) for lat/long centric data, and Quova (http://developer.quova.com) for IP-address to geo-loc are two platforms that supply heaps of awesome data. Looking to iterate around this idea, but totally open to hearing yours too. E-mail me or find me at the Mashery table to talk.

Apartment hunting sucks. We make it better. InsideTrck provides an alternative apartment rental marketplace by connecting apartment seekers with those who are moving out. Moving? You can make money on something you never could before: the apartment you're leaving. Looking? Find the best NYC apartments before anyone knows about them. The best part is if you're moving, you're probably also looking. Looking for designers, business people with real estate experience or anyone who wants to help out!
